We are currently recruiting to fill the role of HR Benefits Manager!!

 

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in HR, business administration or related field. Master’s degree or Benefits-related certifications (i.e. SHRM or World at Work) are desirable.  Minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in benefits management.

Position Overview: Reporting to the VP, Human Resources, the Benefits Manager will oversee the U.S. employee benefits portfolio to ensure program designs are market competitive and fiscally sound.  The position is directly responsible for management and review of annual benefits practices and for developing, implementing, and leading the Health, Wellness and Retirement Benefits strategies for the Company.

RESPONSIBILITIES include:

  • Oversees the administration of benefits programs for approximately 1,000 associates, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, paid leave, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives across the various operations in the U.S.
  • Partners with the Executive team (as required) and external consultants on design, analysis, recommendations, and implementation of benefits programs. 
  • Supported by internal accountant, the Primetals Benefits Center, and external consultants, manages Company benefits plans including complex reporting and analysis, change management, cost management, customer service, communications, and vendor management. Monitors administrative costs of our benefits programs and recommends cost-efficient alternatives.
  • Participates in benefit provider contract negotiations and renewals; evaluates vendor and plan performance to ensure high-quality service and cost-effectiveness.
  • Reviews and presents annual market analysis, marketplace changes, and advances to Executive team to promote competitive and fair benefit offerings aligned with industry trends.  
  • Oversees benefits plan audits. Reviews vendor reports on a regular basis and follows up on changes, inconsistencies, concerning trends, etc. and communicates internally as appropriate.
  • Stays current on benefits legislation and makes recommendations to ensure competitiveness and compliance in all relevant markets.  Ensures all benefits-related compliance requirements are met.
  • Coordinates with HRIS and Payroll staff and outside vendor to ensure that the needed level of reporting and record keeping is developed and maintained. Ensures appropriate technology is maximized to administer all benefit programs.
  • Partners with Corporate Finance, Legal and outside consultants as needed on the design and administration of benefits plans.
  • Drives and guides Benefit Communication to ensure employees are aware of the value of their benefits services, initiatives and programs and how to access them.  Guides employee and manager understanding and compliance with very complex Benefits policies, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Responds to complex benefits issues or exceptions with employees and vendors and escalates as appropriate to advocate for employee.  Applies advanced skills to resolve problems not covered by existing procedures or practices independently.
  • Communicates frequently with HR team to stay current on employee concerns and feedback regarding benefits.
  • Participates in M&A activity and the management and integration of benefit requirements (as needed.)

Required Skills/Knowledge, Education and Experience:

  • Demonstrates and applies comprehensive knowledge of a wide variety of benefit plans, techniques, and theories, including health, wellness, leave and retirement plans.
  • Demonstrates and applies advanced knowledge of employee benefits concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • A broad national perspective and expertise in the implementation of benefits programs in a multi-state organization.
  • Familiarity with current federal and state benefits compliance requirements and proven experience implementing solutions in response to new or changing benefit laws and regulations.
  • Strong business acumen, negotiation, and project management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot problems crossing functions and vendors and manage with facts, data, and clear metrics.
  • Proven solutions-oriented approach and ability to craft innovative solutions to challenges.
  • Ability to build cross-functional support to advance goals and produce results.
