Job Description: 

THE ROLE

 

Working within our Supply Chain Team this role is responsible in managing supplier delivery performance for defined projects and orders, to ensure on time delivery.    You will own the supplier order once placed and being the primary point of contact to coordinate all activity, proactively resolving issues, until delivery.

 

 

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY / TASKS:

 

Reporting to the SQM Manager, the Materials Controller shall:

 

  • Liaise with Procurement, SQM and other stakeholders, to develop expediting plans, based on supplier performance data and specific project risks.

 

  • Engage suppliers to ensure receipt of their manufacturing schedules for key orders, receiving updates and reviewing progress on a regular basis.  Identify issues / concerns with respect to potential delivery risk and take appropriate action.

 

  • Where appropriate, undertake supplier visits to monitor manufacturing / delivery progress and where required develop and agree counter measures to meet contractual obligations.

 

  • Where required, co-ordinate the delivery of free issue parts (FIP) to suppliers and ensure all quality documentation is received and available for review by Quality Engineers.

 

  • Utilise IT systems to monitor, track and communicate status across a wide range of projects and orders.

 

  • Proactively engage all relevant stakeholders, to clearly and concisely communicate order status, highlighting potential delivery risks and where required agree recovery and / or mitigating actions.

 

  • Act as the primary interface and day to day point of contact with suppliers, following purchase order placement.  Own and manage suppliers to achieve their contractual obligations. 

 

  • Develop and improve supplier relationships.

 

  • Define appropriate KPI's and monitor and report accordingly, develop improvement plans (along with relevant colleagues) to address any underperformance.

 

  • Continually review processes and systems and identify cost, time and other process efficiencies and implement accordingly.

 

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

Knowledge & Skills:

 

  • Planning & Organising - the ability to adopt a structured, organised approach. 

 

  • Experience of production planning processes.

 

  • Attention to Detail - a meticulous attention to detail is required.

 

  • Communication - a clear and concise (written and verbal) communicator.  The ability to organise and lead supplier meetings, effectively managing conflict.

 

  • Priority Setting - the ability to manage a high workload, making prioritisation decisions, when faced with multiple conflicting demands.

 

  • Decision Making & Judgement -  be prepared to make fast paced professional judgements, sometimes on the basis of imperfect information.

 

  • IT - a proficient user of IT, specifically all Microsoft Office packages.  Experience of SAP is highly desirable.

 

  • Personal - strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to take initiative, develop effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders and work as part of a team.

 

  • Self Development & Learning - desire, motivation and commitment to continuous learning and personal development.

Must have current UK Driving License, as well as the right to live and work in the UK and travel internationally without restrictions, possibly at short notice.

 

The following are desirable requirements for the position:

 

  • Experience in manufacturing, engineering, planning or expediting roles an advantage.
