THE ROLE

Reporting to the Project Engineering Department Manager, you will be a member of the Project Engineering Department providing an engineering service for the company in a technical project leadership role.


You will be responsible for leading and co-ordinating the technical content of projects, with a typical budget of £5-50m contract value, ensuring that all project objectives are met.

 

Supervising an in-house team of 5-20 engineers and the output of additional Primetals offices or subcontract houses, these may be overseas.


Project responsibilities include a combination of the following: on-time, on-budget project execution; activity planning and progress monitoring; ensuring technical and functional suitability of designs; hours and financial budgeting, resource control, health and safety and compliance.
 

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Customer interaction as required throughout project lifecycle. To include face to face meetings, technical point of contact for project, relationship management etc.
  • Lead a multi-disciplined project team of engineers; ensuring good design and compliance with the engineering specification within the project timescale and budget.
  • Coordinate activities of all design disciplines involved in project execution whether in Primetals companies, subcontractors or external partners. Facilitate the transfer of information between stakeholders. Provide feedback on individuals and organisations to Engineering Management.
  • Ensure team members and partners are aware of and comply with the technical requirements of the project, company operating procedures and statutory obligations.
  • Work with the Project Manager as the technical focus during project execution to produce a technically compliant and commercially viable solution.
  • Conduct and / or oversee project Design & Safety Reviews, Risk Assessments etc. both within the project organisation and with the client.
  • Report to the Project Manager/Engineering Manager on project progress, KPIs and change management.
  • When required ensure that equipment is manufactured, tested, installed and commissioned in accordance with the design / operational requirements.
  • Maintain the technical file, communication log and deviations for the project.
  • Monitor project progress and inform Project Manager/Engineering Managers where technical and/or resource issues may put this at risk.
  • Preparation of project planning and resource requirements for the engineering activities of the project.
  • Develop, maintain and cultivate relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors to ensure successful execution of the project and / or to ensure relationships are developed to secure future business.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Extensive Leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Significant experience of function within large projects
  • Substantial design experience and knowledge of the relevant technology area (Metals industry)
  • Ability to be able to communicate on both technical and non-technical issues
  • Understanding of Project Management, Planning, Procurement
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities for self and others
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and requirements
  • IT literate with all department and business system tools, especially CAD systems

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

 Extensive experience of project engineering and the project lifecycle from sales through to installation/commissioning from a specific disciplined engineering view.

  • Experience of team management during project execution, both office based and site based.
  • Must be able to solve problems quickly and positively. Take an active part in the decision making of the engineering team.
  • Substantial experience of the metals industry and large Project execution.

EDUCATIONAL / PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree qualification in a relevant engineering subject. Other qualifications will be considered with strong, proven track record.
  • 2 or more years in a similar working role.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Must have current UK Driving Licence, as well as the right to live and work in the UK and travel internationally without restrictions, possibly at short notice.
