Location: Sutton, MA
Primetals has an immediate need in Electrics Automation Group in Sutton MA for Senior Level Systems Engineers. This position will require some domestic and international travel.
Required Education: BSEE or equivalent combination of education and experience in Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) system design.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Person will be resonsible for developing / designing complex systems that integrate hardware and software which includes:
- Complex material specification.
- Schematic preparation and appropriate follow-up.
- Develops recommendations for ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction and improvement in customer satisfaction.
- Guides complex technical interchange and knowledge transfer for both processes and application of products to system design.
GENERAL DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Design and specify hardware for Variable Frequency Drives.
- Parametize and tune programs for Variable Frequency Drives for specific industrial metal technology applications.
- Identifies problems as they occur and takes appropriate steps to solve them in situations where the problem can be difficult or complex.
- Seeks advice and guidance on non-routine or problem areas from others.
- Works with immediate manager, others in the group, project manager, project team and customer during project execution.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS/BA in related discipline, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience in drive systems.
- 5+ years of experience with demonstated success working with medium to large Variable Frequency Drives in industrial settings.
- Detailed knowledge of specific equipment, processes, systems and facilities related to electrical engineering of steel mill equipment.
- Detailed knowledge of complex engineering principles, calculation methods, equipment design, equipment selection.
- Good team skills and ability to work effectively in large, diverse, multinational groups.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel ocassionly in the US and abroad.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following drive systems: Siemens Sinamics S120, ABB ACS880, or Rockwell Powerflex
- Knowledge of how a motor works as well as being able to properly specifiy and select motors.
