Summary

 

The application engineer plays a vital role for the MHI new business unit in preparing unique technical solutions for our customer base in the Americas region. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with a global applications team in order to develop technical proposals using the MHI sales configurator tools as well as represent the company in customer clarification meetings.

 

Role and Responsibilities

 

  • Foster an environment of team work, compliance and continual improvement.

  • Ensure compliance with departments standard procedures.
  • Review customer RFQs for new equipment projects involving centrifugal compressors and steam turbines.
  • Interpret specifications in order to capture customer requirements in the MHI sales configurator tool as well as prepare deviation and clarification lists.
  • Prepare scope sheets and division of responsibility sheets in order to define proposal deliverables between internal cross functional teams.
  • Develop buyout requisitions and obtain quotes for rotating equipment such as motors, variable frequency drives, gearboxes, auxiliary systems (lube oil systems, gas seal panels), anti-surge valves and control panels in accordance with customer specifications and MHI standards.
  • Gather information from internal cross functional teams to compile technical proposals.
  • Attend customer meetings and answer technical related questions.
  • Assist with project handover to the execution team upon award of a project.

Qualifications – Required

 

  • BS in Engineering – Mechanical or Electrical
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience as application engineer, design engineer, project engineer, commissioning with focus in turbo machinery or related rotating equipment with focus on motors, variable frequency drives, generators, gearboxes, auxiliary systems (lube oil systems, gas seal panels), anti-surge valves and control panels.
  • Must have proficient experience and/or exposure to national and international engineering codes and standards.
  • Ability to work well with others in a global team environment.
  • Must be able to travel globally, if required.
  • Good communications skills with a superior customer focus.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills are necessary.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

 

Qualifications – Preferred

 

  • Previous OEM and/or EPC experience
  • Previous international experience

 

Physical Demand

 

  • Ability to sit and work in front of a computer for majority of the day.
