Apprentice - Design Engineer

Apprentice in an engineering environment with a developing bias towards Mechanical or Electrical discipline. You will gain experience in the design and manufacturing of products and systems for industry.
You will be included in our internal development programme, giving you access to further training and mentoring.
Candidates will undertake a level 4 or 6 apprenticeship which includes a HNC in Mechanical Engineering, through day release
Main tasks and responsibilities
These will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Engineering design and development of products and systems using CAD software.
- Working as part of a team to support the assembly of electrical and mechanical products.
- To develop knowledge in the technology by interfacing with other departments and participating in the learning program to become an active member of the organisation.
- To learn and become aware of company procedures, departmental methods and guidelines in order to understand and apply the fundamentals of their application.
- To broaden the apprentices knowledge of the business a period of time is spent in different departments. This helps to gain experience and understanding of technologies and working practices and also allows the apprentice to determine a career path / development opportunities once the NVQ level 3 and HNC is complete.
- Develop Engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and reports while communicating this effectively and competently to more senior staff that enable decisions and design considerations to be made by internal and external customers from the output of the findings.
- Broaden core key skills and drive towards completing the apprenticeship by successful completion of NVQ level 3 and HNC With the intention of moving onto additional higher education
Required skills and experience
- Interest in technology and how things work with experience of engineering and manufacturing principals.
- Equivalent of 5 GCSE's 4-9 (Including Maths, Science and English)
- BTEC Level 3 Extended / Diploma in Engineering - overall grade MMM or higher OR A Levels, grade B or higher in Mathematics and Physics or Design Technology.
- Some knowledge of Engineering eg software and Design Packages, for example AutoCAD
- Competent with IT software eg. Microsoft Word and Excel etc.
- An interest in computer programming and Technology is desirable
- Good communication skills to work well as a team member or as an individual.
