THE ROLE
The role of Apprentice is an engineering design environment with a developing bias to Mechanical/Fluids/Hydraulic discipline but also familiar with Electrical/Instrumentation/Automation/Civil/Structural and Refractory disciplines.
You will be included in our internal development programme, giving you access to further training and mentoring.
Candidates will undertake one of the following courses / apprenticeships (dependent on qualifications).
Level 3 – BTEC Mechanical Engineering
Level 4 – HNC Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
Level 6 – BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To develop knowledge in the technology by interfacing with other departments and participating in the learning program to become an active member of the organisation.
- To broaden the apprentices knowledge of the business a period of time is spent in different departments. This helps to gain experience and understanding of technologies and working practices and also allows the apprentice to determine a career path / development opportunities once the NVQ level 3 and HNC is complete.
- Develop Engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and reports while communicating this effectively and competently to more senior staff that enable decisions and design considerations to be made by internal and external customers from the output of the findings.
- To learn and become aware of company procedures, departmental methods and guidelines in order to understand and apply the fundamentals of their application.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Equivalent of 5 GCSE's 4-9 (Including Maths, Science and English) for the BTEC Apprentice AND
- 2 or 3 A Levels (grade A-D) in subjects including Maths and Physics or Chemistry OR a 2 year BTEC Engineering qualification.
- Some knowledge of Engineering software and Design Packages, for example AutoCAD
- Various software packages such as Microsoft Word and Excel etc.
- Good communication skills to work well as a team member or as an individual.
- Flexibility to travel and complete site working (UK or abroad. This is minimal during Apprenticeship but expected as part of the job and the future career.
