MHI RJ Aviation Group (MHIRJ) provides comprehensive critical operational, engineering and customer support solutions including maintenance, refurbishment, technical publications, marketing and sales activities for the global regional aircraft industry. We’re hiring a Director of Materials to help drive our continued success! 

 

Purpose of the role:

 

The Director of Materials is a strategic leader responsible for managing and optimizing the operations and staff of a multi-site Service Center Network (SCN) Material Support Department. This position leads and develops departmental team members, fosters a strong culture of safety, and ensures consistent achievement of performance and quality standards. Key responsibilities include organizing and optimizing the management of direct materials (aircraft-related goods) to effectively support operational goals across the SCN organization.

 

Success in this role requires alignment with regulatory requirements, corporate objectives, customer expectations, and continuous improvement initiatives. Collaboration with corporate Supply Chain Management is essential to integrate strategies and best practices across SCN locations.

 

Working cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Operations Management, and Manufacturing teams, the Director ensures a seamless flow of direct materials to enable on-time program delivery and cost-effective execution in a highly regulated, complex environment. The position also oversees the efficient procurement, warehousing, and distribution of inventory and material resources to meet operational demands.

 

Here are the daily responsibilities of the Director of Materials:

 

  • Leadership & Oversight: Provide strategic direction and daily leadership for all department personnel. Foster a safe, productive, and collaborative work environment.
  • Operational Support: Ensure alignment between materials management and operational needs by coordinating with operations teams to allocate resources effectively, optimize schedules, and resolve logistical or operational challenges.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure departmental adherence to company policies, procedures, and material standards. Maintain a high level of accuracy, efficiency, and quality in all materials activities.
  • Collaboration: Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between materials support, service centers, and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Performance Management: Monitor and evaluate team performance, identify development opportunities, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee inventory levels and material planning functions to achieve established customer service goals, maintenance program requirements, and fill rate objectives
  • Oversee demand forecasting and inventory optimization processes, ensuring accuracy, optimal stock levels, and minimal obsolescence.
  • Monitor and manage established materials KPIs including fill rate, forecast accuracy, and cost-saving objectives.
  • Identify and deliver cost savings opportunities through supply base consolidation, dual sourcing, and value engineering.
  • Oversee SCN stores operations to include material handling/stocking, tool control, shipping and receiving and inventory cycle count procedures
  • Monitor stores operations to comply with all federal and state regulations, including HAZMAT compliance and FAA regulations
  • Manage stores operations to provide 24/7 support to maintenance hangar requirements
  • Manage procurement and material planning to ensure adherence with company policy and procedures
  • Monitor and control department capital and operating budgets
  • Implement capital requests required for budgets (upon approval)
  • Initiate policy revisions and updates specific to material support operations
  • Responsible for local activities related to Indirect Goods and Services for the Service Center Network
  • Responsible for DOT required documents related to Service Center Network owned vehicles.
  • Participate in shared responsibilities for managing relationships with Customers and on-site Customer Representatives.
  • Ensure Insurance requirements relating to leased equipment are satisfied yearly.

 

 

Here is what is required to succeed:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field;
  • 10-years of experience in supply chain and/or inventory management in a heavy industrial, aerospace, manufacturing or other similarly complex industry, with a demonstrated success in managing sourcing and logistics;
  • 5-years progressive management experience
  • Must be able to travel 15%+
  • Experience working with machined parts, complex assemblies, and fabricated metal components used in aircraft/aerospace platforms.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with planning/organizational skills required for prioritization, assignment and coordination of workloads within a multiple project setting
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, employees, management, and contractors
  • Working knowledge of the FAA and Federal Aviation Regulations
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office tools including intermediate to advanced excel skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications.
  • Proven leadership in negotiating long-term agreements, supplier consolidation and cost modeling.

 

Work Environment:

 

  • Position requires full-time presence at our Bridgeport, WV facility with on-site collaboration essential to role success.’
