Job Description: 

Mitsubishi Low Carbon Solutions Canada, a subsidiary of Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA) is looking for a Business Development Director to join our team.  This is a hybrid position out of Calgary, Alberta.

 

SCOPE:

Be part of Mission Net Zero through our group products, technologies, and services that help reduce CO2 emissions, as well as new solutions and innovation to be developed with partners around the world. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group will contribute to realizing net zero emissions for the world as a whole. 

The Business Development Director will develop the carbon capture business in Canada. This includes analyzing new opportunities, managing multiple complex customer engagements, and working collaboratively  with team members in the US and Japan to secure new business and reach project completion.

The ideal candidate will have at least 15 years of work experience in energy, utilities, chemical process industries or a related field and P.Eng. License in Alberta.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend and present at industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information to clients and internal team members on market trends, government policy and incentives.
  • Lead client meetings and presentations; research and establish relationships with new clients.
  • Act as a primary customer point of contact as project opportunities mature for team members and partners to secure new business and reach project completion.
  • Identify and track project opportunities, analyze, prioritize, and determine feasibility.
  • Lead discussions with team members in the US and Japan, partners, and customers during proposal and project development stages; manage t negotiations and resolution of commercial matters.
  • Work closely with engineers and other colleagues to build customer relations and convey cost effective technical solutions.
  • Lead the assessment of project viability, development of business offerings, manage pricing agreements and related arrangements.
  • Function as the Project Business Manager on specific projects as assigned.
  • Prepare internal reports, meeting notes, and provide feedback to management on client issues and business needs.
  • Mentor and direct day-to-day work of less senior staff in the above activities.
  • Support  development of carbon capture business strategies and offerings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Engineering degree preferred.
  • Experience: At least 15 years of relevant experience and work experience in energy, utilities, chemical process industries or a related field.
  • Any special skills/training/certifications:
    • Valid Professional Engineer, P.Eng, license currently registered in APEGA.
    • Ability to conduct and direct others in economic and financial modeling and strong familiarity with EPC projects and contracts.
    • Experience with technology process licensing.
    • Experience with technical sales.
    • Strong experience with and ability to direct customer relationship management.
    • Ability to grasp and willingness to learn technical concepts.
    • Effective communication and facilitation skills are essential. Ability to simplify complicated concepts.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across multiple time zones and with cultural differences.
    • Ability to cold call, network, and speak publicly.
    • Strong research, qualitative analysis, and quantitative analysis skills.
    • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications & comfortable using other software as required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel: 25%
  • Schedule: Evening meetings/calls due to the 15-16 hours’ time zone differences between Calgary and Japan, there are typically 2-3 days where it is expected that meetings will be held in the evening to coordinate activities with Japan.
  • Lifting/physical requirements: Regularly required to sit for long period, stand, walk, talk and/or hear. Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
