We are looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer-Process Lines for our Canonsburg, PA facility.  The Mechanical Engineer is an engineering professional experienced with designing steel strip process lines and equipment for Continuous Galvanizing lines, Pickling lines, and other similar process lines for both greenfield and revamp projects.

 

The successful candidate will support the engineering department in multiple projects and proposals and provide guidance and oversight to the mechanical engineering department. The candidate will assist in equipment selection, studies, calculations, scheduling, and engineering resource estimation during the bid phase, and provide guidance and oversight to the mechanical engineering team through project execution. The principal engineer will ensure that the technical solutions designed and supplied meet all customer expectations and that all engineering designs, calculations, FEA, etc.… are validated and meet all technical requirements (operational, maintenance, safety, etc.…).    

 

The Mechanical Engineer will also be responsible for training and mentoring engineering personnel.  The position necessitates working collaboratively with engineering and other stakeholders within the organization (sales, project management, procurement, electrical and automation, quality, site services, etc.…). The position reports to the Director of Mechanical Engineering. 

 

Responsibilities

  • As a Mechanical Engineer, the candidate has senior experience and expertise and freely offers support, mentoring, and approval of complex and specialized engineering tasks related to process lines. 
  • Determines client requirements and develops technical specifications, drawings/layouts, solutions, and related documents for pre-projects. Assists the bid project manager in equipment selection, estimation, and other technical requirements during the bid phase.
  • Assists the lead engineer with all technical aspects of the project, including, final design and engineering oversight, coordinate all engineering disciplines, interfacing amongst other departments and overseas counterparts, technical disposition to procurement, manufacturing, and site services during installation and commissioning. The principal engineer is the technical expert to the lead engineer and Project Manager. 
  • Participates in customer reviews and leads problem solving, technical clarifications, and approval process with customer and other stakeholders. Supports the lead engineer and engineering management with technical project requirements, including design reviews, lessons learned, risk assessments and safety requirements, root cause analysis, etc.…
  • Assists the lead engineer in maintaining engineer schedules and budgets and provides expertise, where needed, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Plans, develops, and provides the training and mentoring to younger engineers and designers, working with engineering management to ensure present and future succession planning.
  • Travels primarily within the NAFTA territories to customer sites. International travel, as required, for company related assignments such as training. Anticipated travel 20%.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Education, Experience

  • BS - Engineering, with focus in mechanical engineering, electro-mechanical technologies, or other process-related field, or presentable equivalent experience.
  • Eight to Ten years' technical work experience, within the steel industry, specialized in process line equipment design and engineering.
  • Five or more years of experience with managing projects in a leadership or direct support role.
  • Experience with training or mentoring younger engineering personnel.
  • Knowledge of fluids systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication) and related instrumentation and piping.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineering (PE), PMP, or CAPM certification.
  • NFPA, FM, UL, NEC requirements. 
  • Electrical & automation concepts & understanding (PLCs)
