We are looking to hire for the position of Consulting Mechanical Engineer-Rolling Mills at our Canonsburg PA location. The position reports to the Director of Mechanical Engineering. The ideal candidate is an engineering professional who is experienced in rolling mill engineering.
The successful candidate will support the engineering department in multiple projects and proposals and provide guidance and oversight to engineering staff members. The candidate will assist in product selection, studies, calculations, scheduling, and engineering estimation during the bid phase, in addition to, providing guidance and oversight to the engineering team through project execution. The consulting engineer will ensure that the technical solutions designed and supplied meet all customer expectations and that all engineering designs, calculations, FEA, etc… are validated and meet all technical requirements (operational, maintenance, safety, etc…).
The consulting engineer will also be responsible for training and mentoring engineering staff members. The position necessitates working collaboratively with engineering and with other stakeholders within the organization (sales, project management, quality, site services, etc…).
Responsibilities:
- As Consulting Engineer, the candidate has senior experience and expertise and freely offers support, mentoring, and approval of complex and specialized engineering tasks related to rolling mills.
- Determines client requirements and develops technical specifications, drawings/layouts, instructions and related documents for pre-projects. Assist the bid project manager in equipment selection, estimation, and other technical requirements during the bid phase.
- Assists the project engineer with all technical aspects of the project, including, final design and engineering oversight, coordinate all engineering disciplines, interfacing amongst other departments and overseas counterparts, technical disposition to procurement, manufacturing, and site services during installation and commissioning. The principal engineer is the technical expert to the lead engineer and Project Management.
- Participates in customer reviews and leads problem solving, technical clarifications, and approval process with customer and other involved stakeholders. Supports the lead engineer and engineering management with technical project requirements, including design reviews, lessons learned, risk assessments and safety requirements, root cause analysis, etc…
- Assists the lead engineer in maintaining engineer schedules and budgets and will provide expertise, where needed, to ensure successful project execution.
- Plans, develops, and provides the training and mentoring to younger engineers and designers, working with engineering management to ensure present and future succession planning.
Knowledge, Skills, Education, Experience:
- BS - Engineering, with focus in mechanical engineering, electro-mechanical technologies, or other process-related field, or presentable equivalent experience.
- Ten Years of technical work experience, within the steel industry, particularly in rolling mill design and engineering.
- Five or more years of experience with managing projects in a leadership or direct support role.
- Experience with training or mentoring younger engineering personnel.
- Professional Engineering (PE), PMP, or CAPM certification preferred
- NFPA, FM, UL, NEC requirements preferred
- Electrical & automation concepts & understanding (PLCs) preferred
