SCOPE:

The Technical Program Manager – Gas Engine Module will lead the planning and execution of cross-functional projects for gas engine–based power generation modules intended for the North American market. This role owns end-to-end project delivery from engine sourcing (Japan) and module/package development, validation, and certification, through manufacturing ramp-up with U.S.-based packagers and customer delivery. This role will collaborate closely with multiple internal stakeholders and team members in Japan and the U.S. to ensure cost, schedule, quality, and compliance targets are met, contributing to MHIA's long-term success and technology leadership.

 

The ideal candidate will have at least a minimum of nine (9) years of experience in engineering programs involving technical, industrial, or energy systems, with at least four (4) of those years in direct management of complex technical or industrial equipment or energy system projects

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program management

  • Own end-to-end program delivery for gas engine power generation modules, from concept through design, validation, certification, and customer delivery.
  • Develop detailed program plans, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams.
  • Facilitate clear, consistent communication across all stakeholders, including executives, engineers, vendors, packagers, and customers.
  • Track progress against milestones and proactively identify and mitigate risks related to schedule, cost, supply chain, and compliance.
  • Lead program reviews, status meetings, design reviews, and executive updates with clarity and accountability.
  • Track and analyze program costs to ensure alignment with the budget and broader business objectives.
  • This position collaborates with global stakeholders across Japan and the U.S. to align priorities, enable effective execution, and support MHIA’s long-term business objectives.

Product development

  • Coordinate and oversee system-level performance evaluations and validation activities for gas engine modules, ensuring alignment with design targets, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations
  • Coordinate engine supply from Japan and module/package development with North American packagers; align interfaces, scope, and responsibilities.
  • Own and manage the DoR and commercial/contractual framework with U.S. packager(s)
  • Support regulatory and certification activities (e.g., UL/ETL/NRTL, emissions compliance, and applicable state/local requirements) in coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support vendor and contract manufacturer/packager management to ensure schedule, quality, and cost targets.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education Requirement: B.A or B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation Engineering
  • Experience: Minimum of nine (9) years of professional experience in engineering programs involving technical, industrial, or energy systems, with at least four (4) of those years in direct management of complex technical or industrial equipment or energy system projects.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, budgets, and cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with program management tools and methodologies (MS Project, Asana, Smartsheet, or similar).
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Google Workspace, or similar productivity tools.
  • Strong product/program lifecycle experience with major industrial/energy equipment vendors, integrators, or end customers.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 5+ years’ experience in gas engines, power generation, distributed energy resources, or large-scale industrial equipment programs
    • Experience with engine packaging, modular power systems, or balance-of-plant integration (fuel, exhaust, cooling, emissions, controls).
    • Experience supporting North American regulatory/certification requirements for power generation equipment.
    • PMP, PMI-ACP, or similar certification.
    • Familiarity with lean product development or manufacturing environments.
    • Familiarity with Japanese business culture is a plus.
