Purpose of the job
The Project Development Associate will support the Energy Transition Business by identifying and driving project development opportunities in hydrogen and power-to-X infrastructure. This role involves supporting the team to advance projects from concept to financial close and beyond, to achieve MHI’s strategic goals and commitment to a net zero future.
Key tasks
- Support the Team: Support the project development team in creating innovative project concepts, identifying potential development partners, and converting opportunities into successful projects. Support the team members with expertise in their respective activities.
- Opportunity Evaluation: Evaluate, screen, and appraise development opportunities considering technical, commercial, and financial feasibility aspects.
- Project Structuring: Support the team in structuring and framing development opportunities to establish viable project concepts, including comprehensive business, financing, and technical plans. Follow up the implementation of these concepts through the entire project lifecycle.
- Partnership Management: Negotiate and execute co-development partnerships (LoIs, MoUs, JDAs, and Joint Ventures). Act as the primary point of contact with partners during project implementation, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Contracting Strategies: Collaborate with project managers to develop, evaluate, select, and execute robust contracting strategies. Maintain key contact with contractors and support team members in their contracting efforts.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and execute stakeholder management strategies, engaging with both internal stakeholders (MHI management and group companies) and external stakeholders (contractors, public administrations, power suppliers, and offtakers).
- Value Assurance: Lead project value assurance processes, working closely with internal and external stakeholders, including financial and funding institutions, to ensure project success and alignment with strategic goals.

- Interpersonal Skills: Strong social and intercultural competence, with the confidence to interface with project partners, contractors, and senior management.
- Communication: Fluency in Business English, with excellent communication skills to articulate project goals and strategies clearly and effectively. Other European languages can also be beneficial.
Experience
- Advanced degree in finance, economics, management, or engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the process, power, or renewables industry, with a focus on capital project development or engineering contractor support.
- Experience in the green hydrogen sector is highly valued.
