What you’ll be doing…at the core

The Customs Specialist will be responsible to manage MHIRJ’s compliance pertaining to import and export activities by providing instructions and support to the internal/external partners as well as performing audits of the processes, data and clearance documents on behalf of MHIRJ. This role will report into the Spare Parts Operations Manager and will work closely with MHIRJ partners to manage compliance. Responsibilities will include:  

 

  • Work collaboratively with MHIRJ’s compliance department to define and maintain operational policies and processes associated with foreign trade.
  • Coordinate with different customs brokers and carriers to clear US & CA import and export shipments.
  • Accurately identify harmonized codes, and classify parts for customs clearance for the US & CA.
  • Support, maintain and audit US & CA import and export procedures and processes, including export control, within MHIRJ warehouses.
  • Monitor company compliance continuously through periodic checks, audits and KPIs.
  • Prevent regulatory agency-imposed fines on the company and ensure full compliance with all export and hazardous activity, and promptly investigate trade non-compliance once detected.
  • Act as main liaison between operational teams and MHIRJ’s compliance department regarding regulatory or compliance questions.
  • Support internal stakeholders with customs-related inquiries and issues.
  • Maintain licenses and permits, trade program enrolments along with special customs exemptions and waivers.

  • You have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in US foreign trade, import/export compliance and/or customs brokerage.
  • You have Bachelors’ degree in international trade, logistics, supply-chain or equivalent along with a specialized designation in the administration of customs related-matters - OR equivalent work experience.
  • US Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) and US Certified Export Specialist (CES) certification is an asset.
  • You have basic knowledge of FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and (FAR) Federal Aviation Regulations
  • You have excellent knowledge of the various North American customs processes.
  • You have interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with a variety of individuals and departments.
  • You have excellent organization and time management skills, as well as adaptability to change.
  • You have strong problem-solving skills, ability to troubleshoot and propose solutions.
  • You have the ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
  • You have working knowledge of various computer skills necessary to operate word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and web-based applications.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
  • Fluent in English - reading, writing, speaking.

  • Role may require 15% travel.
