Summary
The CAD Engineer is responsible for delivering high‑quality 2D and 3D designs and detailed engineering drawings to support manufacturing, repair, and service operations. This role requires strong proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks, with a focus on creating accurate drawings for OEM and O‑OEM components. The position includes reverse engineering activities using physical components, measurements, and available data to generate manufacturing‑ready documentation. Familiarity with structured light scanning or laser scanning technologies is preferred, enabling collaboration with internal and external partners to support reverse‑engineering efforts.
Roles and Responsibilities

- Ensure compliance with department’s standard operating procedures.
- Focus on 2D and 3D design and drafting activities to support shop services, repairs, and manufacturing.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks in accordance with company and industry standards.
- Perform reverse engineering of O-OEM components to generate accurate manufacturing and inspection drawings.
- Review customer specifications, sample parts, and legacy documentation to define drawing requirements.
- Ensure correct input data, dimensions, tolerances, materials, codes, and standards are applied to all drawings.
- Prepare and maintain drawing packages, bills of materials, inspection record forms.
- Support production teams by generating shop-ready drawings, fixtures, and tooling designs when required.
- Assist engineering and operations teams by updating or modifying existing drawings to reflect repair or design changes.
- Participate in design reviews and technical meetings with internal stakeholders.
- Support procurement by providing technical drawings and clarification for manufactured or purchased parts.
- Ensure all engineering/drafting deliverables are completed accurately and issued in a timely manner.
- Interface with engineering, shop, quality, and field service teams to resolve drawing-related issues.
- Maintain organized drawing archives and ensure proper document control.

Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Drafting, or equivalent technical discipline.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D) and SolidWorks (3D) drafting and modeling.
- Ability to perform basic reverse engineering using physical parts, hand measurement tools, and existing samples.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
- Strong focus on mechanical drafting and design.
- Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and basic manufacturing processes.
- Strong attention to detail and thoroughness.
- Ability to work in a hands-on shop environment and interact with production personnel.
- Good organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong initiative and desire to learn new skills and develop skillsets.
- Demonstrated high personal productivity and motivation.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with customers, shop, sales, vendors, and procurement personnel in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience creating drawings for rotating equipment or industrial machinery.
- Familiarity with turbomachinery parts and repair (aftermarket) work environment.
- Experience supporting manufacturing or repair shops with production drawings.
- Basic knowledge of materials, heat treatment, and machining processes.
- Hands-on experience with laser trackers (Leica AT960, API Radian Pro), structured light scanning and portable CMM’s (FARO/Romer arm).
- Knowledge of optical metrology software (Hexagon SpatialAnalyzer, Polyworks Inspector, FARO BuildIT Metrology).
- Familiarity with document control systems and drawing revision management.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with engineering, shop, quality, and procurement teams.
- High level of personal productivity and ability to manage multiple design tasks in a fast-paced environment.
