COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY MECHANIC

 

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

 

 

  • Foster an environment of teamwork, compliance and continual improvement.

  • Proactive engagement with HSE and 5S initiatives.
  • Follow and apply technical and non-technical instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Participate in centrifugal compressor performance and mechanical integrity testing, taking technical direction from the Compressor Shop Test Engineers and Technical Field Advisors.
  • Carryout gas seal leak testing on centrifugal compressor assemblies.
  • Disassembly and re-assembly of centrifugal compressors to enable testing of both the spare and working rotors.
  • Disassembly of dry gas seal and bearing assemblies to enable quality inspection after centrifugal compressor test runs.
  • Installation of centrifugal compressor dry gas seals and bearing assemblies.
  • Use precision measuring tooling to measure and record required quality/engineering inspection dimensions and data to ensure assembly complies with technical documentation tolerancing.
  • Ensure all precision measuring tooling is within calibration date before use.
  • Support the change and setup of compressor shop test stand for differing configurations of centrifugal compressor.
  • Support the installation and alignment of centrifugal compressors, gearboxes and motor drivers in the shop test stand.
  • Support the installation of equipment supports.
  • Support the installation and removal of pipework and valves in line with technical drawings.
  • Cleaning of equipment and parts when required.
  • Act as temporary lead of mechanical contractors when brought in due to increased shop load.
  • Participate in assembly of new unit packages when the compressor shop test stand has down time.
  • Safe rigging and lifting of parts and equipment.
  • Safe material handling of parts and equipment.
  • Lead and participate in test stand and shop upgrade and improvement projects.
  • Active participation in company training initiatives, both technical and non-technical.
  • Take ownership and responsibility of ensuring work areas, storage areas, toolboxes, etc. are organized and clean in compliance with 5S principles.
  • Swift and accurate entry of labor hours into shop time entry system.
  • Work efficiently and effectively to support company goals of on-time delivery and maintaining project budgets.
  • Compliance with departmental objectives, and company HSE and Quality protocols.
  • Compliance with company measurement tooling calibration procedures.

Requirements

 

 

  • Five or more years related experience in shop environment.
  • Demonstrated mechanical skills and aptitude.
  • Experience installing pipe supports, pipework and valves.
  • Experience bending and installing of tubing.
  • Experience in assembly of centrifugal compressors, including dry gas seal installation.
  • Experience in the alignment of high-speed rotational equipment using RotoAlign® or similar equipment.
  • Strong ability and willingness to learn and develop technical ability, knowledge and skillsets.
  • Good communication skills with peers, supervisors, managers, engineers and quality personnel.
  • Able to read and apply information in mechanical drawings, schematics, technical documents, etc.
  • Able to understand and apply both written and verbal instructions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Mechanical and Shop Safety knowledge.
  • Mechanical drawing reading and comprehension. 
  • Ability to read and comprehend Production Packets in English.
  • Strong ability and willingness to learn and develop technical ability, knowledge and skillsets.
  • Proactive in taking on responsibility and accountability.
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Able and willing to work outside of normal business hours to maintain customer critical to quality requirement and schedule.
  • Experience using forklifts and overhead cranes.

 

 

 

Preferred Skills

 

 

 

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Technical School Degree.
  • Instrument and Electrical experience.
  • Good ability with computers and Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience in the alignment of high speed rotating equipment with dial indicators.
  • Experience as Lead Mechanic Technician.
