SCOPE:

 

The Head of Human Resources provides strategic, operational, and tactical leadership across all divisions of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (“MHIA”) and over the Human Resources (“HR”) services provided to MHI group affiliates in a shared services environment. This role oversees HQ HR, HR operations, talent management, digital transformation, and customer success, ensuring alignment with business objectives. In collaboration with key HR stakeholders and MHI Global HR Representatives in Americas Region, the Head of HR leads a high-performing team and drives global HRIS initiatives, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence in service delivery.

 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in HR management, including demonstrated experience in HR operations and shared services environment.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Essential Strategic HR Leadership & Business Partner

  • Serve as a trusted advisor/consultant and strategic partner to the executive leadership team, aligning HR strategy with business objectives while working in close collaboration with MHI’s Global HR Representative in Americas Region to ensure consistency, alignment, and global integration of HR initiatives.
  • Collaborate with MHI Global HR Representatives in Americas Region to develop and implement annual strategic initiatives that align with the MHI Mid-Term Business Plan (Jikei), supporting long-term business sustainability and organizational growth.
  • Build and foster a customer-centric, one team-focused HR culture.
  • Set strategic direction, KPIs, and performance standards for all HR functions.
  • Drive strategic sourcing and vendor selection processes, balancing innovation, compliance, and cost optimization.
  • Lead HR strategy and execution for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures in close collaboration with Global HR Representative in Americas Region, including due diligence, organizational integration, talent assessment, change management, and cultural alignment to ensure seamless transitions and business continuity.

 

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Oversee HR operations across MHIA and North American affiliates, including payroll and benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and international regulations (e.g., ACA, ERISA, GDPR).
  • Oversee the management of vendor relationships and offshore teams to ensure service quality, compliance, and cost efficiency.
  • Optimize shared services delivery models for scalability and efficiency.

 

Global HRIS & Digital Transformation

  • Oversee the global HR digital transformation function and strategy to enhance scalability and efficiency.
  • Oversee HRIS systems optimization, integration, and governance.
  • Drive innovation through workshops (e.g., Design Thinking) and emerging technologies.
  • Oversee the development of dashboards and KPIs for performance tracking and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the Global HRIS Digital Transformation initiatives. Encourage creative approaches and engage with other teams and adjacent functions to maintain alignment, capture synergies, and accomplish HRIS Strategy with a global mindset.
  • Partner with MHI HRDX and process owner in Japan to ensure strategy and support alignment throughout the MHI group companies.

 

Customer Success, Change Management, and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the highest escalation and senior point of contact for HR Corporate Services customers and MHIA HQ HR.
  • Drive customer satisfaction through strategic reviews, issue resolution, and service excellence.
  • Oversee and drive change management initiatives, including readiness assessments and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

 

Team Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Manage all of HQ HR and Corporate Services’ leadership team.
  • Facilitate ongoing HR leadership meetings and team-building activities throughout the year, in collaboration with key HR stakeholders and Global HR representatives, to strengthen alignment, foster collaboration, and promote a high-performing, engaged HR organization.
  • Build and lead a high-performing HR team. Mentor and develop HR, HRIS, and customer success teams.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Oversee leadership development programs and performance management frameworks.

 

Financial Stewardship

  • Annually develop and manage the fiscal year budget for all HR functions in collaboration with key HR stakeholders and MHI Global HR representatives in Americas Region, ensuring cost-effective operations and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Analyze budget performance and identify opportunities for cost efficiency while maintaining high standards of service delivery and employee experience.
  • Ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance in all HR-related financial planning, reporting, and decision-making processes.
  • Lead the negotiation and management of HR-related contracts and vendor agreements, including overseeing the Request for Proposal (RFP) process, in collaboration with legal, key HR stakeholders, and MHI Global HR representatives in Americas Region to ensure alignment with organizational goals, cost efficiency, and service quality.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in HR management, including demonstrated experience in HR operations and shared services environment.
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including Title VII, the ACA, FLSA, NLRA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, OBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to manage and influence cross-business and global teams.
  • Ability to understand issues at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Expertise in HR operations, employee relations, vendor management, and compliance.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Certifications: SHRM-SCP, GPHR, PMP, CCMP, or related.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel %: Up to 30% domestic and international travel.
  • Standard Monday through Friday work week. Weekend/late night work when applicable.
  • Lifting/physical requirements: Regularly required to sit for long periods, stand, walk, talk and/or hear Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
