Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA) is looking for a Learning and Development Specialist to join our team. This is a hybrid role based out of our Houston, TX Office.

SCOPE:

The Learning and Development Specialist supports learning and development initiatives and programs that align with MHIA’s overall talent management objectives to achieve desired business outcomes. The Learning and Development Specialist collaborates cross-functionally to identify organizational needs, make recommendations and implement learning and development programs. The position maintains an effective level of business acumen, its culture, and its competition to implement comprehensive learning programs that enhance skills, drive career progression and position the organization for long term growth.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Conduct needs assessments to identify specific knowledge and skills gaps within the organization and recommend targeted interventions
  • Partner with Management and HR to identify and apply learning programs that further employee development efforts.
  • Facilitate and organize employee training events and development programs that effectively address skills gaps and enhance employee performance.
  • Contribute to the development of structured career paths to provide clear progression opportunities and support employee growth and development.
  • Support succession planning strategies to ensure a robust pipeline of talent for critical roles within the organization.
  • Define and implement metrics to assess the impact and effectiveness of training and learning programs.
  • Make recommendations for new or enhanced training plans and materials based on data and observations.
  • Maintain and update organizational communications, such as intranet content and newsletters, to promote training opportunities and resources.
  • Regularly engage business unit stakeholders to understand business objectives and assess individual or group learning needs through surveys, interviews and focus groups.
  • Conduct research on content creation, emerging technology, industry specific developments and best practices to maintain current learning programs.
  • Deliver engaging and effective training programs to employees, both in-person and virtually.
  • Manage course catalog, enrollments, and reporting within the LMS.
  • Manage vendor relationships with external training providers.
  • Visit site locations as needed to provide guidance and coaching.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

 

  • Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Instructional Design, Business Management, Education, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience required.
  • Experience:At least 5 years of experience concentrated in Learning and Development. Possesses a solid understanding of developing and delivering learning programs. Learning and development certification preferred.
  • Any special skills/training/certifications:
    • Strong ability to build collaborative relationships.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and LMS systems.
    • Familiarity with various learning methodologies, eLearning tools, and multimedia production.
    • Experience in facilitating training in person and virtually; strong presentation skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail and the ability to manage and deliver  multiple priorities.
    •  Excellent problem-solving skills.
    •  Ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment.
    •  Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
    •  Proactive nature.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel: Up to 20%
  • Varying work hours may be necessary due to business demands.
  • Lifting/physical requirements: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
