Role Overview

The Machinist is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC and/or manual machines. This role requires the ability to independently read and interpret blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences required. The Machinist contributes directly to high-quality manufacturing by ensuring accuracy, safety, and efficiency in machining processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Verify fixture setup meets quality standards for milling and boring sizes, depths, angles, and specifications.
  • Perform setup on "First Run / Prove Out Programs" and troubleshoot jobs as needed.
  • Specify tooling and demonstrate a strong understanding of machining processes.
  • Perform calculations using algebra and trigonometry.
  • Install, align, and secure tooling, attachments, and parts on machines.
  • Assemble cutting tools in tool holders and position tool holders in machine magazines.
  • Load control media into machine controllers or retrieve preprogrammed instructions from databases.
  • Calculate and set machine controls to regulate cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
  • Operate machines and monitor for malfunctions or irregularities.
  • Adjust controls or enter commands to correct machining errors.
  • Perform dimensional inspections of products to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborate with programming personnel to resolve control media errors.
  • Perform machine and equipment preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in machining, CNC setup, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred: Journeyman Machinist certification or equivalent.
  • Strong experience programming and editing CNC G-Code programs.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software, including MasterCam and Solidworks.
  • Knowledge of FANUC control systems.
  • Experience working with a wide range of alloys.
  • Ability to set up and operate Horizontal Mills, Vertical Mills (HAAS), VTLs, Lathes (NC), Manual Mills, and EDMs.
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as needed; valid driver’s license and passport required.

This role requires regular standing and frequent use of hands and arms, with occasional walking, sitting, bending, and lifting. Employees must be able to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. The work environment involves exposure to moving mechanical parts and moderate noise levels, where hearing protection may be required.
