Role Overview
The Mechanical Engineering Associate will support the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of CNC machining and CAD-driven processes within a repair and machining environment. This role provides hands-on exposure to machining operations, CAD/CAM workflows, and shop-floor process development while working closely with machinists, engineers, and leadership to improve standard work, documentation, and overall CNC capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Support evaluation and improvement of CNC machining processes, setups, tooling concepts, and standard work.
- Observe machining operations and document workflows, lessons learned, and improvement opportunities.
- Develop and modify CAD models for tooling, fixtures, and repair features under engineering guidance.
- Update drawings, basic dimensioning, tolerances, and convert engineering intent into shop-ready documentation.
- Create clear work instructions, visual guides, checklists, and training aids for machining and CNC usage.
- Capture best practices and translate tribal knowledge into repeatable, intuitive documentation.
- Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and supervisors on problem-solving, safety, quality, and efficiency initiatives.
Requirements
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (completed sophomore year preferred).
- Basic understanding of mechanical drawings and GD&T concepts.
- Exposure to CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar.
- Interest in machining, manufacturing, repair engineering, or shop-floor process development.
- Strong attention to detail with clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to ask questions, think critically, and work effectively in a hands-on shop environment.
