Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA) is looking for A Procurement Coordinator to join our team. This position is onsite and based out of our Houston, TX Headquarters in the Galleria District.

SCOPE:

The Procurement Coordinator supports global sourcing and procurement operations of both direct materials used in production and projects, and indirect materials which support business operations. This role supports timely supply, cost efficiency, and quality compliance across all procurement categories, contributing to operational excellence and strategic sourcing initiatives. In addition, the role supports the Japan-based procurement team by managing supplier relationships, coordinating sourcing activities, and overseeing logistics for materials procured from the United States. Acting as a key liaison between U.S. suppliers and the Japan SCM team, the Procurement Coordinator supports smooth, cost-effective, and quality-compliant procurement.

 

The ideal candidate will have at least a minimum of one (1) year of experience supporting global procurement or supply chain activities in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, or industrial sectors or similar analyst role.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Procurement Operations:

  • Support the sourcing of direct materials (raw materials, components) and indirect goods/services (MRO supplies, IT equipment, facility services) in alignment with manufacturing, project, and operational needs.
  • Prepare RFQ/RFP processes, supplier evaluations, and contract negotiations.
  • Coordinate purchase orders, delivery tracking, and document management.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records in company ERP system.
  • Support sustainability, compliance, and risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Assist in supplier communications, relationships and performance monitoring to ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and internal stakeholders to meet specifications, timelines, and budget requirements.

U.S.–Japan Coordination:

  • Support communication between U.S. suppliers and the Japan-based procurement team.
  • Coordinate sourcing activities and logistics for materials procured from the U.S.
  • Support alignment of procurement strategies between regional teams.
  • Support export/import documentation and international shipment coordination and follow up.
  • Facilitate communication and reporting between U.S. and Japan Supply Chain Management teams.

Affiliate Collaboration & Communication:

  • Join regular cross-regional meetings and support notetaking and reporting.
  • Assist in preparing bilingual documents, such as supplier summaries or procurement reports.
  • Contribute to improving communication and sharing of best practices among affiliates. Identify and address communication gaps to improve collaboration and efficiency.
  • Support documentation and translation of procurement-related materials.

Market Intelligence & Strategic Support:

  • Gather intelligence on U.S. supplier markets, logistics networks, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for Japan headquarters under supervision of senior staf.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for localization, cost reduction, and supply chain resilience.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience supporting global procurement or supply chain activities in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, or industrial sectors or similar analyst role.
  • Prior experience working in a multinational or cross-border environment, with a strong preference for experience involving Japan-U.S. business coordination.
  • Experienced in supporting market research and supplier analysis initiatives.
  • Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business publications, engineering drawings and specifications, technical documents, and government regulations in both English and Japanese.
  • Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence, and process documents in English and Japanese.
  • Capable of delivering presentations and responding effectively to inquiries from managers, clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders in English and Japanese.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, and procurement platforms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Understanding of international logistics and trade compliance, including Incoterms and export/import documentation.
  • Ability to perform calculations involving discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Competent in applying basic algebraic and geometric concepts to practical problems.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Advanced business-level proficiency in both English and Japanese, including technical vocabulary and cross-cultural communication skills.
    • Strong capability in supplier benchmarking, cost modeling, and market intelligence.
    • Experience in supporting strategic sourcing initiatives and supply chain resilience planning.
    • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive collaboration across regions.
    • Strong presentation and stakeholder engagement skills, including reporting to senior leadership.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel up to 15%
  • Standard Monday through Friday work week. Weekend/late night work up to 10%
  • Lifting/physical requirements: Regularly required to sit for long period, stand, walk, talk and/or hear Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
