Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA) is looking for a Regional Compliance Specialist to join our team. This is an onsite role based out of our Houston, TX HQ office in the Galleria District.

SCOPE:

The Regional Compliance Specialist will support the development, implementation, and monitoring of compliance programs, policies, reporting, and practices for MHIA and its regional affiliates. The Regional Compliance Specialist will perform functions to ensure compliance with legal standards and policies and will utilize established internal controls and auditing systems to identify, detect, and correct noncompliance within MHIA and select affiliate companies.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer policies and procedures that ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards
  • Analyze internal business systems to ensure compliance with industry regulations and ethical standards.
  • Create, modify, update, implement, and monitor the company’s policies.
  • Support the development and implementation of risk management strategies.
  • Conduct compliance tests or audits and report findings to the executive team.
  • Design control systems to address cases of violation of internal business policies.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into allegations of illegal, unethical, or improper behavior by employees or company representatives, including reviewing documentation, interviewing relevant parties, analyzing evidence, and preparing detailed reports.
  • Continuously monitor regulatory enviornment and implement changes to compliance processes based on new or amended regulations.
  • Design and support the implementation of ongoing training programs for employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Liaise with departmental heads and compliance leaders at other MHI affiliates in the Americas to ensure that business operations are consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Advise the top management regarding business risk and mitigation.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulator agencies (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and manage all reporting, permitting, and compliance documentation
  • Develop, implement, and maintain environmental health and safety (EHS) programs, procedures, and training to promote a safe and environmentally responsible workplace.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Risk Management and HR to integrate EHS best practices into daily operations.
  • Track and report key EHS metrics and performance indicators to senior leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance EHS culture and reduce environmental impact.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Legal Studies, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in the compliance field within highly regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated experience interfacing with regulator bodies and responding to inquiries or inspections.
  • Understanding of relevant federal, state, and international regulations such as OSHA, EPA, GDPR, HIPAA, SOX, FCPA, AML, OFAC, EAR, ITAR, and other relevant frameworks.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific compliance standards and best practices.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships through strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities; adept at identifying risks and proposing practical solutions.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Juris Doctor (JD) and/or attorney qualification
    • Professional certification Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP)
    • Experience supporting internal audits and conducting investigations

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel: 10%
  • Standard Monday through Friday work week.
  • Weekend/late night work if applicable: 10%
  • Lifting/physical requirements: Regularly required to sit for long periods, stand, walk, talk and/or hear. Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
