SCOPE:

The Senior Manager of Benefits is responsible for leading the end-to-end strategy and administration of the benefits programs for MHIA and its affiliates in a Shared Services Environment.  This position also ensures that the benefits programs support the organization’s strategic objectives and meet legal requirements.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, implement and administer all US Health and Welfare programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement and other ancillary programs, ensuring the programs meet defined organizational service, quality and cost needs, and comply with legal requirements.
  • Encourages the growth of the Benefits Team members through skill development and goal setting.
  • Holds direct reports accountable for meeting performance standards and departmental performance goals.
  • Manage insurance and service vendors including contract renewals, RFPs, issues management, communications frequency, schedule and approach. Assist in resolution of escalated benefit issues.
  • Maintains working knowledge of current trends, developments and legislation in the benefits field to make informed recommendations, changes and/or additions to the employee benefits program designs to best serve overall Company objectives.
  • Work closely with external consultants and vendors (benefit consultants, global brokers, trustees etc.) to conduct benchmark analysis, coordinate benefit administration and ensure services and programming are competitive and cost-effective globally.
  • Design benefits-related communications and conduct training sessions to the business and HR to ensure understanding and engagement of benefit programs through a variety of media (print, email, videos etc.), for U.S. Annual Enrollment.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and international disclosure and legal reporting requirements such as COBRA, HIPAA and IRS (Section 125) Flexible Spending Account Programs.
  • Maintain benefit plan documentation including plan documents and policies.
  • Provide retirement plan oversight and fiduciary responsibilities for the U.S. 401(k), including annual audits and non-discrimination testing.
  • Analyze data trends and metrics to assess and/or anticipate business risks and, in partnership with HR COEs, develops and/or deploys recommended solutions, programs and applicable policies.
  • Negotiate priorities and support requirements with cross-functional teams, as appropriate, based on business and resource needs.
  • Open and maintain effective communication channels with management team, key stakeholders, and external providers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

 

  • Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business or related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: At least 10 years of benefits program administration with at least 5 years of experience managing a benefits team.
  • Any special skills/training/certifications:
    • Relevant Benefits Certification preferred: CBP, CCP
    • Demonstrated knowledge of domestic Health & Welfare, retirement (defined contribution and defined benefit), STD/LTD/FMLA and well-being benefits/programs
    • Knowledge of legal reporting requirements such as COBRA, HIPAA, IRS (Section 125) Flexible Spending Account Programs, 401(k) Audit, 5500s etc.
    • Benchmarking and strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills; must be a critical thinker with strong attention to detail, and quality assurance of work products
    • Advanced skills in MS Office products to include effective use of MS Excel for reporting and data analysis

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel: 20 % domestic
  • Fully on-site
  • Weekend/late night work if applicable: Occasionally.
  • Lifting/physical requirements: Regularly required to sit for long period, stand, walk, talk and/or hear. Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
