Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA) is looking for a Customer Success - Senior Payroll Tax Analyst to join our team. This is an onsite role based out of our Houston Headquarters in the Galleria District.

SCOPE:

The Senior Payroll Tax Analyst – Customer Success supports payroll tax compliance, tax setup, and year-end processing across MHIA and its affiliates. This role serves as the payroll tax subject matter expert within the payroll team, partnering closely with the Senior Manager, Payroll Tax & Governance and the Senior Payroll Technology & Governance Analyst. The role focuses on payroll tax accuracy, reconciliation, jurisdictional setup, and year-end reporting while supporting overall payroll operations when needed. This position ensures payroll tax calculations, filings, and reporting are accurate, compliant, and aligned with regulatory requirements. The role also supports payroll processing activities during peak periods or complex scenarios, ensuring continuity across the payroll function.

 

The ideal candidate will have at least a minimum of eight (8) years of payroll experience with a strong focus on payroll tax..

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support payroll tax compliance across federal, state, local, and Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of state and local tax jurisdictions, ensuring accurate tax withholding and reporting.
  • Perform payroll tax reconciliations, identifying discrepancies and supporting resolution efforts.
  • Support quarterly and year-end payroll tax activities, including validation of W-2, W-2C, and T-4 reporting outputs.
  • Assist with tax filings and ensure payroll tax data aligns with regulatory requirements and reporting standards.
  • Partner with HRIS and payroll teams to validate tax configurations and ensure accurate payroll tax calculations.
  • Operate in tandem with other payroll team members to support a unified payroll governance model, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational stability.
  • Investigate payroll tax discrepancies and perform root cause analysis related to tax setup, system configuration, or vendor processing.
  • Support internal and external payroll audits related to payroll tax compliance and reporting.
  • Assist in tracking tax notices and supporting resolution in coordination with vendors and internal teams.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Payroll Technology & Governance Analyst to validate payroll system outputs related to tax calculations.
  • Support payroll processing activities, including payroll validation and issue resolution, during high-volume or complex processing periods.
  • Serve as a resource to internal stakeholders on payroll tax-related inquiries and requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of eight (8) years of payroll experience with a strong focus on payroll tax.
  • Experience supporting multi-state payroll tax requirements.
  • Exposure to Canadian payroll tax requirements and reporting (T-4).
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax calculations, filings, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience performing payroll tax reconciliations and resolving tax discrepancies.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis and reconciliation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to collaborate across payroll, HRIS, Finance, and vendor teams.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months.
    • Experience working with enterprise payroll systems (UKG, SAP, Workday, ADP, or similar).
    • Experience supporting year-end payroll processes and tax reporting.
    • Experience working with payroll vendors and tax service providers.
    • Project or process improvement experience.
