Role Overview
The Engineer I, Process position is responsible for performing the process engineering design functions. These include the design of combustion and steam turbine auxiliary systems, process equipment, process control/instrumentation design integration and start-up support. The designs must meet contract and schedule requirements for MPW-A’s power projects in the Americas. The position also leads efforts, collaborates with leadership, and provides strategic oversight to ensure efficiencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
- Prepare heat and material balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), process data sheets, and P&IDs.
- Perform and review hydraulic calculations, heat exchanger thermal calculations, pump sizing, and control valve specification and selection.
- Apply an understanding of process instrumentation and control principles to process engineering design work.
- Maintain a strong understanding of Mitsubishi Power core products and technologies while supporting teamwork, quality, customer service, and innovation.
- Adhere to company policies, business practices, and standard operating procedures; report unsafe activities to Management and/or Human Resources.
- Participate in proactive team efforts, contribute to departmental and company goals, build a positive team spirit, and communicate effectively with all levels of employees.
- Protect confidential information, maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity, attend or lead meetings during Japanese normal business hours as needed, travel up to 10%, and perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering discipline or technical diploma from college or university and 1-2 Years extensive direct experience with an EPC firm or combustion/steam turbine OEM.
- Experience managing P&IDs, hydraulic calculations, and heat and material balances is beneficial.
- Practical understanding of simple and combined cycle power plant design is beneficial.
- Hands-on experience with Smart Plant P&ID, Aspen HYSYS, and AFT Arrow/Fathom is beneficial.
- Technical knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and P&IDs.
- Strong analytical skills related to engineering problem solving.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, electronic mail required.
- Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and organizational skills.
