ROLE OVERVIEW
Mitsubishi Power Americas is a major power generation equipment and storage solutions provider for the energy industry. Our products include advanced class gas turbines, hydrogen gas turbines, lithium ion and flow battery technologies, digital solutions, and renewable energy project development.
The Piping Design Engineer - II for our project execution team develops piping system designs that meet code, contract, and schedule requirements for Mitsubishi Power’s Gas Turbine power projects in the Americas. The role primarily focuses on piping systems related to large frame industrial gas turbines. Scope may expand to other piping systems within the plant at some future point.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and optimize piping layouts, isometric drawings, and 3D models using software like SmartPLANT 3D (SP3D), PDMS, or PDS.

Perform piping designs for high energy and process piping according to ASME B31.1 codes and standards.

Proficient in 3D piping modeling software such as PDS, PDMS, and SmartPLANT 3D (SP3D).

Perform pipe routing on high temperature systems, considering space constraints, stress analysis requirements, accessibility, and maintenance.

Generate and maintain piping layouts, isometrics, and general arrangement drawings.

Collaborate with process, mechanical, and structural teams to integrate piping designs.

Support model reviews, clash detection, and resolution using SmartPLANT Review and Freeview.

Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle from conceptual design to commissioning.

Ensure piping designs align with project requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices.

Maintain records of design changes and engineering decisions.

Select appropriate piping materials, valves, and fittings as per project specifications.

Prepare and review piping drawings, isometrics, and bill of materials (BOM).

Ensure designs adhere to safety regulations, client standards, and industry best practices.

Work with project teams to implement constructability and maintainability improvements.

Deliver engineering outputs within project schedules to meet deadlines.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strive for continuous improvement in piping system designs to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

Protect company confidential information by not communicating, disclosing, or using it for benefit of third parties and always maintaining the highest degree of honesty and integrity.

Effectively manage multiple tasks and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

Participate in model reviews (30%, 60%, 90%) and resolve clash issues.

Support enforcement of S3D modeling standards and workflows.

Contribute to improvements in S3D workflows, tools, and processes by offering feedback and supporting implementation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field (preferred). A minimum of 7 years of experience in piping design, with demonstrated expertise in Smart 3D (S3D) and other engineering design tools.

Technical Skills: Solid understanding of piping design principles, including 3D modeling workflows, piping specifications, and plant layout standards. Proficiency in Smart 3D (S3D) is essential, including experience with modeling, reference data customization, and project schema configuration. Ability to troubleshoot design issues, coordinate with other disciplines, and ensure model integrity.

Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, effective communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting project deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Regularly required to stand and walk. Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Hearing protection may be recommended and/or required in some areas.
