Role Overview

The Engineer III, Steam Turbine Contracts is responsible for the technical aspects of business development and contract execution involving steam turbine equipment supplied through external steam turbine suppliers. This role serves as the key organizational contact for technical matters associated with steam turbine contracts and requires subject matter expertise in steam turbine technologies, technical proposal management, and project engineering. The position ensures the supplier steam turbine scope is contracted and executed efficiently, in compliance with applicable guidelines and procedures, while minimizing risk and meeting contractual, quality, schedule, and organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain standard steam turbine specifications that represent Mitsubishi Power Americas requirements.
• Collaborate with Sales, Supply Chain Management, and Commercial Business Development teams to develop bidding and contracting strategies.
• Oversee technical aspects of business development, including new project bids, project-specific specification revisions, supplier clarifications, technical exceptions, and contract conformance.
• Oversee technical contract execution for externally supplied steam turbine scope, including reviewing documentation deliverables, maintaining action items, monitoring engineering schedules, and supporting site activities.
• Serve as the primary organizational interface and technical conduit for steam turbine contracts throughout business development and project execution.
• Apply technical knowledge of balance-of-plant systems that interface with steam turbines.
• Maintain logs of improvement opportunities and implement enhancements to improve future operations.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, schedule, and cost performance.
• Establish and maintain compliant buyer-seller practices when working with suppliers that may otherwise compete with Mitsubishi Power Americas.
• Ensure strict compliance with company guidelines governing competitor interactions, trade practices, and confidential information.
• Demonstrate leadership and provide technical direction to peers and lower-level engineers.
• Mentor lower-level engineers and transfer technical knowledge.
• Perform technical analyses and produce detailed, concise, analytical reports.
• Proactively improve engineering tools, processes, procedures, and standard work.
• Follow company work instructions, guidelines, procedures, policies, and business practices.
• Promote teamwork, quality, customer service, innovation, and effective communication across multicultural teams.
• Comply with safety requirements and report unsafe activities to Management and/or Human Resources.
• Protect confidential information and maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity.
• Travel 5% to 20%, including periodic visits to customer offices and construction sites.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from a four-year college or university.
• Seven (7) years of applicable engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Subject matter expertise in steam turbine technology, technical proposal management, supplier interfaces, and project engineering.
• Knowledge of combined-cycle power plant design and multiple engineering disciplines is beneficial but not required.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations in English.
• Ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, technical recommendations, and presentations in English.
• Ability to work with probability, statistical inference, geometry, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Acrobat, Excel, and related office applications.
• Knowledge of databases, project management tools, graphics, technical diagrams, and flow charts.
• Japanese, Spanish, and/or Portuguese language skills are beneficial but not required.
• Ability to work in environments that may require standing, walking, lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, and hearing protection in moderate-to-loud areas.
