Mitsubishi Power Americas. Inc. is looking for a Geographic Information Systems Associate (INTERNSHIP)

SUMMARY

This role will be to update, maintain, and create relevant documentation and reference material for existing maps. This includes categorizing existing map data, verifying data sources, creating manuals, procedures, and reference guides for existing datasets and maps.  Other specific duties to be performed for this role include to collect, compile, and analyze data, interpreting maps, upkeeping a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database and existing maps, and leading the development of general and project specific maps. The role requires a high level of communication skills and ability to work with multiple departments and individuals. The preferred candidate must have a basic understanding of GIS methods, databases, and mapping tools such as the esri platform.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and update current data sets and existing map products. Categorize existing datasets, verify sources, and create cohesive GIS database.
  • Develop and maintain reference materials, manuals, procedures and standards, and any other necessary documentation for existing map products and new products.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of data and adherence to established procedures.
  • Review, verify, and interprets data and sources and use basic GIS software functions to enter, edit, and update GIS spatial data following standard procedures.
  • Provides specialized GIS customer service. Coordinates requests for maps and other materials, track activity, work with internal customers to analyze and configure maps to fit their requirements, present and report on end-product. Work with internal customer to update and maintain current maps.
  • Conduct research to collect, compile, and analyze data such as identifying locations for renewable projects, geological storage, industrial activity, etc. 
  • Provide technical support and provide training to GIS users and non-users.

  • Support team to ensure systems of record are fully utilized, maintained, and are kept accurate.

  • Education and/or Experience: Enrolled in a B.S. program at a university with a focus on GIS technical program or course completion of GIS foundations.
  • Language Skills: Primary business language is English. 
  • Communications Skills: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from team members.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Applies sound judgment in situations.  Ability to organize tasks into manageable pieces.
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of GIS software tools, database, and project management software, MS Office applications, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.  Experience using the esri platform an asset.
