Role Overview
Mitsubishi Power Americas is a major power generation equipment and storage solutions provider for the energy industry. Category management is a strategic approach to procurement that aims to optimize the value and performance of a group of related products or services. As category manager 2, you are responsible for developing and implementing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and delivering savings and benefits for our organization. This individual will identify strategic suppliers in the IT supply chain space and lead cross-functional evaluations to determine the best overall supplier product and services. This individual will recommend and work with internal groups to implement strategic supplier agreements, partnerships, or potential investments in coordination with business approval processes. Main category focus for this position will be IT related.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and implement 5-year ecosystem supplier strategy, capacity, capability aligned with BU and partners.
- Develop and manage relationships with IT hardware and software suppliers, evaluating both current state of the art, and future technologies in early-stage development.
- Experience in category management and strategic IT sourcing.
- Lead supplier evaluations with cross-functional teams covering multiple aspects including product fit and value added, service capability, technical evaluation, manufacturing capacity, risk evaluation, quality, cost competitiveness, Intellectual Property position, etc.
- Serve as key liaison between strategic suppliers, IT teams, and management as we integrate suppliers’ products or services into Mitsubishi Power’s systems and IT infrastructure.
- One of the core skills is the ability to analyze data, such as market research, spend analysis, supplier performance, and stakeholder feedback. You must identify patterns, trends, risks, and opportunities that can inform you of your sourcing decisions and commodity plans. As required, communicate your findings and recommendations clearly and persuasively to your stakeholders and suppliers, using visual tools and dashboards when appropriate.
- Implement cost-out ideas and drive toward standardization.
- As a category manager, you are responsible for negotiating contracts and agreements with your suppliers, as well as managing the ongoing relationship with them. You need to be able to establish trust and rapport with your suppliers, while also ensuring that you achieve the best possible terms and conditions for our organization. You need to be able to balance the interests and expectations of both parties, and to resolve any conflicts or issues that may arise. You also need to be able to leverage your market intelligence, your supplier performance data, and your stakeholder support to create win-win outcomes.
- Identify vendors to Bid highly technical commodities meeting criteria of price, quality, quantity, availability, and delivery dates.
- Review long range forecast and contract validities to create procurement strategies.
- Create value through relationship management, supplier excellence and development projects to reduce cost and lead time and work with other Mitsubishi group companies to find cost savings opportunities. This includes evaluating strategies such as sole sourcing, e-sourcing events, auctions, cross commodity and cross business unit bundling, and tactics for increased competition.
- Work effectively with other people, both internally and externally, to achieve your objectives. You need to be able to engage and influence your stakeholders and to understand their needs and priorities. You need to be able to collaborate and coordinate with other category managers, procurement professionals, and cross-functional teams, and to share best practices and insights. You also need to be able to build and maintain strong relationships with your suppliers, and to foster innovation and continuous improvement to drive value through total cost of ownership.
- As a category manager, you are expected to lead and drive the performance of your category, and to deliver value and results for your organization. You need to be able to set clear and realistic goals and objectives, and to monitor and measure your progress and achievements. You need to be able to motivate and inspire your team, your stakeholders, and your suppliers, and to provide feedback and recognition. You also need to be able to demonstrate accountability and integrity, and to act as a role model and a champion for procurement excellence.
- Present category strategy to senior leadership.
- Performs risk analysis and other data analysis of supply chain.
- Develop detailed plans to mitigate risk and meet supply chain goals.
- Represent Mitsubishi Power in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers.
- Maintains supplier KPI’s.
- Monitor supplier production capacity and establish buyer capacity plans.
- Work with Buyers and overall Supply Chain Team to resolve conflicts as required.
- Develops, evaluates and refines highly complex commercial and technical bids.
- Negotiate terms and conditions, contracts and bid proposals and ensure these areas are reviewed with buyers and all stakeholders.
- Writes and distributes highly technical bid invitations or requests for proposals, receives and analyzes quotes, bids, and proposals, and review with Buyer and other stakeholders for awards of contract.
- Establishes blanket purchase agreements with vendors setting dollar limitations and time of contract limitations.
- May lead or supervise the activities of others.
- Travel up to 10%.
- Perform other such duties as may be required.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university (MBA Preferred); and/or two (2) years of IT supply chain experience; or five (5) years of supply chain experience with specialty in Commodities management; OR, Any equivalent combination.
Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and basic database. Experience with ERP systems such as SAP is preferred.
Ability to effectively communicate job tasks, goals and projects to global sourcing staff as well as manage and delegate when necessary.
