Role Overview
Mitsubishi Power Americas is hiring a Government Relations Associate as a Summer intern. The Intern will report to the Senior Director of Government Relations and support the international, federal, state, local, and tribal policy and advocacy efforts of the organization. The candidate will also provide research and advocacy support for ESG and Corporate Social Responsibility efforts for Mitsubishi Power Americas. Focus areas will be manufacturing, servicing, environmental policy, renewable energy, and other topic areas. The key functions include enhancing the company’s corporate reputation and assuring ongoing positive relationships with government and third-party stakeholders.
Due to the nature of this role, the candidate is required to handle all matters with the highest degree of confidentiality and discretion both during and after the internship period.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and update key state one-pagers (approximately 20 - 30) that take Mitsubishi Power Americas sites and overlay all federal and state representation.
- Issue tracking at the international, federal, and state levels of government.
- Representation on state trade association government relations calls (IL, GA, FL).
- Engage in third party professional organizations such as the Public Affairs Council and Women in Energy (supporting the GR Director of State Government Affairs, ESG, and Corporate Social responsibility).
- Make recommendations on engaging with a variety of political, legislative, and regulatory entities.
- Effectively collaborate with customers and external partners as needed to communicate issue positions, build the company’s political profile, and serve as a conduit to the company’s subject matter experts.
- Maintain compliance with any lobbying disclosures, filings, and other legal requirements.
- Draft an end-of-internship memo and present on the knowledge gained, suggested improvements, and next steps.

Requirements
- Education and/or Experience: Must be currently enrolled in bachelor’s or master’s prgram in political science, public administration, or other related disciplines.
- Collaboration: Maintain a highly respectful, work-focused, positive demeanor at all times.
- Language Skills: English, secondary language of Spanish, Portuguese, or Japanese a plus.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Computer Skills: basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
