Role Overview
The Senior IT Project Manager provides strategic leadership and accountability for the successful delivery of complex IT initiatives across the enterprise, ensuring project outcomes meet defined objectives on time, within scope, and within budget. This role manages multiple concurrent projects of high complexity, orchestrating dependencies across technical teams, business units, suppliers, and shared services to deliver cohesive, value-driven outcomes.
The Senior IT Project Manager is a seasoned practitioner and subject matter expert in project management, combining strong execution discipline with strategic insight. This role maintains comprehensive documentation within the IT Service Management toolkit and ensures accurate executive-level reporting across the IT Project Portfolio.
This role is accountable for full lifecycle delivery, including planning, execution, governance, and closure, while proactively anticipating risks, resolving escalations, and navigating ambiguity in complex environments. The Senior IT Project Manager collaborates closely with IT and business leadership to drive alignment, optimize delivery performance, and influence strategic outcomes.
This role champions governance standards, applies advanced project management frameworks, and fosters cross-functional collaboration to improve processes, delivery maturity, and customer experience. Operating as a senior individual contributor with strong matrix leadership responsibilities, this role influences stakeholders at all organizational levels, including senior leadership, and mentors project team members to advance PMO maturity and enterprise delivery capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Owns end-to-end delivery of complex and strategic IT initiatives within IT Operations and across enterprise functions.
- Leads development and governance of integrated project plans aligned to Organizational Excellence stage gates and enterprise standards.
- Drives execution across cross-functional teams, resolving competing priorities and managing high-impact dependencies.
- Defines and refines project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success criteria in alignment with business strategy.
- Proactively manages risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints, escalating appropriately and driving resolution across leadership stakeholders.
- Maintains and governs projects artifacts, including project charters, CRAIDI logs, RACI matrices, and detailed schedules, ensuring audit readiness and consistency.
- Leads stakeholder engagement at all levels, including executive communication, steering committees, and governance forums.
- Develops and delivers executive-level reporting, dashboards, and status updates tailored to diverse audiences.
- Establishes and tracks project KPIs, driving accountability and data-informed decision-making.
- Leads change management planning and execution, including implementation strategies, rollback planning, and CAB coordination.
- Manages project financials, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and cost optimization in collaboration with IT Finance & Governance.
- Ensures alignment with Enterprise Architecture standards and long-term technology strategy.
- Collaborates with IT PMO, Applications, ERP, and Transformation teams to standardize delivery frameworks and improve portfolio performance.
- Facilitates Agile and hybrid delivery models, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog management where applicable.
- Mentors and coaches project managers, coordinators, and cross-functional team members, elevating project management capabilities across the organization.
- Contributes to the evolution of PMO processes, governance models, and Centers of Excellence.
- Ensures accurate tracking of initiatives within a centralized system of record for portfolio visibility.
- Leads post-implementation reviews, validating outcomes, benefits realization, and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Partners with Business Excellence and Organizational Excellence teams to uphold high standards of delivery and governance.
- Ensures compliance with enterprise policies, including safety, security, and regulatory requirements.
- Drives structured planning, delegation, and execution based on resource capacity, skills, and business priorities.
- Applies advanced change management and delivery methodologies to ensure predictable, high-quality outcomes.
- Champions professionalism, accountability, and a customer-focused mindset across all project teams.
- Acts as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, providing guidance on project strategy, prioritization, and execution approach.
- Supports onboarding and training of new IT team members on tools, processes, and delivery standards.
- Reviews CSAT feedback and drives targeted improvements in service delivery and stakeholder experience.
- Conducts post-implementation reviews, validates outcomes, and drives lessons learned to improve future delivery.
- Ensures compliance with policies, including safety, security, and regulatory requirements.
- Drafts and delegates deliverables within projects according to resource capacity and expertise.
- Systemically organizes project teams and stakeholders, leverages Communities of Practice within the organization.
Requirements
- Accredited four-year degree in Information Systems or a related field or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience managing IT projects in an enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated experience delivering projects across multiple domains.
- Extensive experience managing full project lifecycles, including planning, execution, monitoring, financial management, and closure.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
- Expert knowledge of project management methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid frameworks.
- Expert understanding of IT Service Management principles.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft technologies, systems, and tools, including M365, Windows, Azure, Entra, Intune, Autopilot, Active Directory, Exchange, Purview, Visio, and Project.
- Working knowledge of Apple technologies, systems, and tools, including iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
- Working technical knowledge of IT infrastructure components, including cloud services, networking, storage, telephony, and virtualization technologies.
- Working knowledge of ERP platforms such as SAP, Dynamics 365, or functional equivalents.
- Working knowledge of CRM platforms such as Salesforce, Dynamics CRM, or functional equivalents.
- CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+, or equivalent certifications required within one year of starting in the role.
- PMP certification is required.
- Travel up to 20% within the United States.
