Reporting to the Sr. Manager/Director – Market Intel and Strategy, this role will drive our Americas Power & Energy Market Research and Strategy development, with data-driven insights and assume an SME (Subject Matter Expert) role in partnering with our customers on product, portfolio, and service strategies. 


The ideal candidate will complete predictive and prescriptive analysis of power & energy markets, emerging technology and trends, and competitive intelligence and provide pro-active insights/recommendations on strategic growth strategies leading our customers on their Decarbonization journey towards a Net-Zero future, and thus furthering Mitsubishi Power’s Organizational objectives. 


The candidate will be expected to work with our product/sales, service and finance teams on research and analysis of markets providing meaningful insights in a professional format, thus helping Mitsubishi Power better anticipate and deliver on customer needs, ensuring results are measured and initiatives optimized through creative yet analytical thinking.


The candidate must understand power market dynamics and the fundamental of energy generation. Including how macroeconomic drivers and industry policy correlate to the performance specifications that are valued by our customers as well as how these performance specifications are valued by our customers. Familiarity with Latin American markets is preferable.


A thorough understanding of generation and storage technologies (gas, renewables, storage, CCUS and H2 and resource planning in the power industry (IRP, Asset Optimization) is required, including the ability to research key power industry data, and key-value creation approaches utilities, IPPs, and developers take toward power projects.


Expertise with production cost models (such as PROMOD, PLEXOS, or Aurora) is a must. This position will be responsible for the management, training, and development of a team of analysts to execute a range of projects to deliver advanced insights to the organization and its partners.





Strategic experience in leveraging power industry consumers, markets and new technology insights to craft and create value propositions and business plans, that help us design winning propositions for the evolving new energy world.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Lead a team of high-performing Analysts focused on partnering with Sales, Commercial Operations, Product Line Management and Services teams to lead the Decarbonization of the Power Sector
  • Maintain, update, utilize, and report results from existing MPW capacity expansion models for strategic planning purposes, internal studies, and external publications. Assist in the creation of other decarbonization/Net-Zero Power Grid Simulation models to support analysis of MPW products in the energy markets, including new EPA regulatory requirements, evolving deregulated market structures, and impacts from volatility in fuel markets
  • Manage an active flow of corporate reporting through market/product line research studies, and provide strategic support for new product development, and target market identification in the US/Latin America Markets.
  • Lead cross-functional teams, to define business models and business plans to capitalize on favorable market trends
  • Lead Annual Strategic Planning exercise with P&L leads. Bring insightful research and recommendations and evaluate risk/opportunities from a corporate strategy standpoint.
  • Contribute to a monthly process of reporting market trends, competitive intelligence and develop ideas to support MarComm/Management external presentations and communicate company’s value proposition
  • Monitor and identify market information, research and insights that are material and actionable and provide commentary that enables management to immediately grasp the market impact
  • Create a bold vision of market trends with recommendations on product line gaps/enhancement opportunities and customer segments
  • Partner with new product development teams to understand and balance consumer, competitive, and market insights. Research and develop value propositions for new products and services
  • Partner with sales and market development organization on Key Account Management Research/Analytics, and provide insights/inputs on Customer Target strategy
  • Lead the analysis of customer needs driven by market conditions (i.e. utilities, independent power producers, or project developers) and evaluate areas of opportunity for sales and services
  • Communicate and collaborate with marketing leaders in multiple locations
  • Travel expectation (10%) required for home office in Japan, customers, conferences, etc.

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Mathematics from a four-year college or university; and 7-10 years of progressive experience in the Power, OEM and Energy industry. Required: Power System Modelling/Market Research experience. Skilled in both qualitative and quantitative analysis as well as data visualization.


  • Proficiency in research databases, economic evaluation models, Production Cost Modelling software (Plexos/Aurora/PROMOD), evolving power market dynamics, including generation technologies/ISO trends, customer need assessment analysis, new or changing environmental regulations, competitors’ technology & business advancements.


Product / Market knowledge and skills


  • Demonstrated expertise in/or experience with, Power and Energy markets and trends governing those markets, including, but not limited to: competitive power markets, vertically integrated regulated markets, generation technologies, global new energy research.  Ideal candidates possess a broad background to be able to conduct market trend research while also understanding the technical aspects of various generation technologies including hydrogen/gas turbines, solar projects development and battery storage-new emerging opportunities
  • Knowledge or exposure to hydrogen technology and carbon capture and sequestration.
  • Customer-focused individual, capable of changing perspectives, problem-solving, and adapting strategies and actions to the dynamic and changing market conditions.
  • Proven track record in aligning an organization’s activities with corporate strategic objectives
  • Ability to perform regular financial, competitive, performance, and market analyses for the business in order to comprehensively value business opportunities
  • Proven track record of successfully igniting and running initiatives over the goal line
  • Ability to effectively network and build beneficial relationships with customers and peers.
  • Basic project management skills necessary to lead projects to completion including agenda setting, risk management, project scoping, and project scheduling.
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills and visual storytelling abilities.
  • Ability to work closely with and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter that can work both individually and in a group setting.
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, manage time efficiently, and lead projects and teams
  • Proficiency using public and private databases as a resource for developing marketing analysis, as well as non-traditional resources for market research.



  • Communication and Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, journals, complex instructions, and memos. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, alliance partners, customers, and other employees of the organization. Strong written and verbal communication skills with technical writing skills in English (additional proficiency in Spanish is preferred but optional.)


  • Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and financial documents.


  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of project management software, flow charts, database software, Internet software; Spreadsheet software, PowerPoint and Word Processing software. Preferred: Expertise with Tableau/PowerBI.
