Role Overview
The Principal Engineer – Packaged Equipment is responsible for developing, managing, and overseeing mechanical system design packages for gas turbine auxiliary mechanical equipment supporting Mitsubishi Power’s new power plant projects across North and South America. This role provides technical leadership across project execution and supplier development, ensuring equipment packages meet specification, code, contract, quality, and schedule requirements while mentoring and coaching lower-level engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret P&IDs and technical documentation to define system and project requirements.
- Create, manage, review, and continually improve specifications for packaged mechanical equipment.
- Review supplier designs to ensure compliance with applicable codes, contracts, and internal standards.
- Ensure equipment interface and integration requirements are clearly defined and properly executed.
- Lead the technical evaluation, qualification, and development of suppliers.
- Drive the development and implementation of design improvements across projects and products.
- Develop and adhere to schedules for engineering deliverables supporting project execution.
- Interpret and integrate design requirements from parent company engineering teams.
- Establish and maintain engineering processes and procedures to ensure quality and efficient resource utilization.
- Ensure applicable code and regulatory requirements are fully incorporated into system designs and supplier specifications.
- Interpret end-customer contract technical requirements and ensure alignment within equipment designs.
- Provide regular technical and project status updates to management.
- Lead resolution of site installation and operational issues related to packaged equipment.
- Implement lessons learned into future designs and manage technical changes across projects.
- Establish corrective actions to reduce nonconformance and improve product quality.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to lower-level engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
- Minimum fifteen (15) years of progressive technical engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience with gas turbine air inlet systems required.
- Background from an air inlet system manufacturer or gas turbine OEM strongly preferred.
- Experience with design and build of GT air filtration systems, evaporative coolers, inlet heating systems, and inlet ducts with silencers.
- Strong knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards including NEC, OSHA, ASME, and API.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documentation and regulations in English.
- Ability to prepare and present technical reports, correspondence, and executive-level briefings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering documentation and analysis tools.
- Ability to travel up to 10% as required.
