Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. in Lake Mary, Florida is looking for a Product Line Manager. 

 

This role is– HYBRID and based at the office in Lake Mary, FL. 

 

SUMMARY

 

This role will manage gas turbine new product development (NPD/NPI) and product lifecycle management for the Americas New Generation Systems (NGS) business, in close coordination with the Mitsubishi Power team globally.   You will lead the strategic development of competitive new natural gas and hydrogen fueled gas turbines and combined cycle systems for the Americas market including identification of target market and high opportunity customers for new product launches.  You will own the Americas gas turbine product roadmap, product messaging, and positioning, and lead the new product development process.   This will require superior collaboration with a diverse team of cross-functional counterparts and extreme focus on customer needs.  You will be the gas turbine product’s # 1 internal and external evangelist, influencer, and thought leader.

 

 

EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

Individual must have direct technical and commercial experience with gas turbines and combined cycle power plants for power generation projects in the Americas.  Additionally, he or she must have a working understanding of the technical, performance, and service components of the electric power generation market.  This individual must have strong program management / project management skills to effectively lead multi-discipline teams.  This individual should be eager to learn, self-motivated and able to function effectively with minimum support.  Individuals must be sensitive and perform effectively in a multicultural environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Lead the New Product Development & cost reduction program for gas turbines which will be informed by existing ideas and augmented by new ideas based on your industry experience and Voice of the Customer (owners, EPCs, developers, owners engineers).
    • Support the early phase new product development interface between Sales, Commercial Operations, and Engineering groups to develop compelling business cases and secure appropriate support
    • Leverage systems thinking to drive better plant configuration decisions
    • Work with the Product Configuration Manager to ensure and increase interdisciplinary understanding and transparency among individual departments on the product configuration management change system and process
    • Lead New Product launch by coordinating with Sales, Commercial Operations, Engineering, Marketing Communications and Marketing Strategy teams, which includes defining go-to-market strategy, product positioning, key benefits, and target customers
  • Create and maintain the multi-generation product roadmap in coordination with Gas Turbine Design Engineering / R&D, including key product development milestones.
  • Manage the Americas gas product portfolio and product life cycle from phase-in to phase-out, including the transition to 100% hydrogen fueled gas turbines.
  • Create and maintain the gas turbine product requirements specification.  This includes spec. definition, partnering with GT and Plant Design Engineering / R&D on feasibility, bringing it to life, and maintaining the latest specification for customer communication.
    • Coordinate with Sales, Engineering, Market Analysis, and Voice of Customer teams to understand customer requirements, customer evaluation criteria, and customer strategy.
    • Establish the product’s cost target as part of the product specification and work with supply chain to perform cost reduction trade-off analyses
  • Work with a variety of cross functional groups to drive down gas turbine and power plant total cost of electricity
  • Work closely with Sales and Market Analysis teams to guide long term product forecast.
  • Lead product positioning work to deliver and communicate differentiated products with unique value propositions.
  • Prepare and present technical papers at industry conferences and meetings.
  • Support sales campaigns, bids, and innovation launches with product playbooks, customer presentation materials, and standard product packs that provide key strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to our ability to competitively sell our products
  • Synthesize existing bid win/ loss analysis into winning product and commercial innovation projects.
  • Benchmark competitor products, synthesize competitive actions, and communicate adjustments to our short- and long-term product strategy and market position.
  • Support engineering activities that help establish our technical advantages on projects and provide technological support and guidance to proposal and project teams.
  • Work with the Project Execution Team to enhance product Construction and Modularity characteristics and support sales development activities related to total cost of installation. 
  • Work with the Commercial Operations Team to have general knowledge of Commercial aspects of the equipment and the environment in the industry.
  • Work closely with the Service PLM Team ensure new products seamlessly support future Services opportunities. 
  • Travel expectation (Up to 25%)

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education and/or Experience:

 

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering from a four-year college or university; and at least ten (10) years related technical experience with gas turbines. MBA is a plus (but not required).

 

  • Commercial experience is essential, either through previous Sales, Commercial Operations, Application Engineering, or similar roles.

  • Strong program/project management skills critical in order to effectively influence coworkers and drive tasks and projects to completion including agenda setting, action item management, risk management, project scoping, and project scheduling.
  • Strategic and detailed knowledge of power generation equipment with domain experience in assigned product line and an understanding of North/South American Industrial, Utility and IPP power market and customers.
  • Customer focused individual, capable of changing perspectives, problem solving, and adapting strategies and actions to the dynamic and changing Power Market.
  • Command of product development and innovation processes including Stage – Gate, Lean, or Agile development
  • Ability to work closely with and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with the Mitsubishi Power gas turbine product line and competitor product lines.
  • Highly competitive, self-starter that can work both individually and in a group setting.
  • Ability to effectively network and build beneficial relationships with customers and peers.
  • Aptitude for understanding commercial terms and conditions and supporting negotiations.
  • Flexibility to adjust and thrive in an environment with changing requirements, schedules and priorities for multiple projects or assignments.
