SUMMARY

 

The Project Operations Associate provides support to the entire Project Controls team, including Schedulers, Cost Analysts, and the Project Controls Manager. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to learn the fundamentals of project scheduling, cost control, data analysis, and reporting within the context of large-scale power generation and EPC projects. The intern will assist with administrative and analytical tasks while gaining exposure to industry tools such as Primavera P6, Excel, and Power BI. This role is ideal for a student seeking experience in project management, engineering, or business operations with a strong interest in infrastructure or energy projects.

 

BASIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Support project schedulers with schedule updates, data entry, and basic formatting in Primavera P6 and Excel.
    • Assist cost analysts in gathering and organizing financial data for tracking budgets, commitments, and actuals.
    • Help maintain and update project dashboards and reports using Excel and Power BI.
    • Prepare charts, graphs, and summaries for progress and performance reporting.
    • Participate in team meetings, take notes, and follow up on action items.
    • Organize project documentation, schedules, and reports in shared drives or document control systems.
    • Help perform basic data quality checks and flag discrepancies for review.
    • Support the Project Controls Manager with ad hoc tasks, such as compiling performance metrics or coordinating with internal stakeholders.
    • Assist with the preparation of monthly project status updates and presentations.
    • Learn and apply project controls concepts such as Critical Path, Earned Value, and schedule logic under supervision.
    • Shadow team members to gain exposure to key tools, workflows, and communication strategies.
    • Collaborate with various departments (Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction) to collect relevant project data when needed.

  • Education and/or Experience: Enrolled in a Bachelor's degree (BS) in Industrial Engineering, Business or Construction Engineering from four-year, ABET accredited college or university
      • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
      • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
      • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
      • Computer Skills: Knowledge in MS Office applications (Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Acrobat Writer, Excel, etc.).  Knowledge of databases, project management, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc. Familiarity with tools such as Power BI, SharePoint, Tableau, Oracle Primavera P6, Power Apps, Power Automate, and/or Microsoft Project is preferred but not required.

 

 INTERESTS

    • Interest in learning about Project Planning, Scheduling Techniques, and Project Controls Methodologies.
    • Interest in developing skills in Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling, Earned Value Management (EVM), and progress reporting.
    • Interest in understanding how project schedules, cost forecasts, and performance indicators are developed, monitored, and analyzed
    • Interest in gaining exposure to project execution in the power generation and EPC industry, working closely with engineering, supply chain, and construction teams.
