Role Overview
The Project Planner Scheduler plays a critical role in supporting the Project Management team by developing, maintaining, and analyzing detailed project schedules throughout the entire lifecycle—from development through operations. This position is responsible for creating and managing project schedules, performing Critical Path Analysis (CPA), incorporating resource and cost-loading data, and supporting Earned Value Management (EVM). The planner/scheduler evaluates delays, identifies improvement opportunities, and provides insights to ensure projects remain aligned with schedule, cost, and performance goals. Success in this role requires strong technical expertise in project planning and scheduling software, combined with effective collaboration across cross-functional teams to track and communicate progress while supporting on-time, cost-effective project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain master schedules for assigned projects, tracking actual performance and identifying deviations from plans.
- Develop logically linked project schedules based on proposal documents, contracts, and cost estimates.
- Business travel of a minimum of 20% by land and/or air as required.
- Provide regular schedule updates, progress assessments, and milestone tracking reports.
- Interface with Project Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders to review schedule impacts, assess risks, and resolve issues.
- Prepare and issue proposal and preliminary schedules for client presentations and project kick-offs.
- Incorporate resource and cost loading into project schedules to support EVM and project forecasting.
- Serve as a technical advisor for complex scheduling challenges, offering solutions and process improvements.
- Collaborate with estimators and project teams to ensure schedules are comprehensive and align with project execution plans.
- Assist Project Managers in monitoring schedule segments and their effects on the overall master plan.
- Analyze and communicate schedule modifications, progress updates, and schedule performance trends.
- Provide on-site scheduling support during key project phases, including construction and commissioning.
- Attend monthly progress meetings with customers, EPCs, and project partners to report on milestones and performance.
- Monitor EPC schedule performance, provide independent assessments, and prepare monthly progress reports.
- Conduct document submission analysis to evaluate the impact of submittal delays and develop mitigation strategies.
- Perform Critical Path Analysis (CPA) to identify potential delays and recommend alternative recovery schedules.
- Support Earned Value Management (EVM) by ensuring resource-loaded schedules accurately reflect project performance.
- Lead Task Management System (TMS) activities for NGS projects and supply chain efforts, maintaining up-to-date labor and schedule data.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate progress reporting and forecasting.
- Provide training and guidance to team members on scheduling tools and best practices.
- Support bid and proposal activities by preparing Level 1 schedules for time and cost estimation.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and project-specific requirements, advising management of necessary actions.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of five (5+) years of relevant experience in an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) environment, preferably in power generation project planning and scheduling.
- Must have experience using Oracle Primavera P6 project management software.
