Role Overview

The Project Planner Scheduler plays a critical role in supporting the Project Management team by providing detailed, accurate, and timely project schedules throughout the entire project lifecycle, from development to operations. This individual is responsible for developing and maintaining project schedules, performing critical path analysis, and incorporating resource and cost-loading data. The planner/scheduler also evaluates delays, identifies opportunities for improvement, and supports project execution by working closely with cross-functional teams to monitor and track progress. The position requires a strong understanding of project planning, scheduling software, and project execution to ensure alignment with project goals, cost control, and timely delivery.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop logically linked schedules based on proposal documents, contract documents, and estimate sheets.
  • Create and revise preliminary master schedules prior to the project start, detailing work sequences for the entire project scope.
  • Maintain the master schedule for each project, tracking actual performance against the planned schedule and identifying deviations.
  • Provide regular schedule updates and assess progress against project milestones.
  • Interface with Project Managers and Engineers to discuss impacts, risks, and resolve scheduling problems.
  • Prepare and issue proposal and preliminary schedules for client presentations and project kick-offs.
  • Incorporate resource and cost loading into schedules as necessary to facilitate Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Act as a technical advisor for complex scheduling problems, offering solutions and expert insights.
  • Collaborate with project teams and estimators to ensure that proper planning and scheduling are completed before work begins.
  • Assist Project Managers in creating schedule segments, monitor their impact on the overall master schedule, and help resolve issues as they arise.
  • Provide information related to the modification, content, and presentation of the project schedule.
  • Travel to project sites as required to provide on-site scheduling support during key project phases, including construction and commissioning.
  • Attend monthly project meetings with Customers, Partners, EPCs, and Constructors at designated project locations. During construction, on-site presence is expected to support schedule tracking, progress validation, and coordination efforts.
  • Monitor EPC schedule performance, track milestones, and provide monthly progress reports with independent assessments.
  • Conduct document submission analysis to determine how delays in documents impact the project schedule and suggest mitigation strategies.
  • Perform Critical Path Analysis (CPA) on the project schedule to identify potential delays and risks and develop alternative schedules if needed.
  • Support Earned Value Management (EVM) by ensuring schedules are resource-loaded for accurate tracking of project progress.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on planning and scheduling requirements, including progress reporting.
  • Participate in bid and proposal activities, providing Level 1 schedule input to support cost and time estimation.

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering, Construction Management or related field from four-year college or university; and Five (5+) years related experience in an EPC environment and experienced in planning/scheduling of major power generation projects.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Up to 20 % travel required both domestically as well as internationally.
