Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. in Lake Mary, Florida is looking for a R&D Data Scientist.
This role will be based at our Headquarters in Lake Mary, FL.
SUMMARY
The R&D Data Scientist will support the Innovations team’s focus on modeling and analytics. This role will be responsible for algorithm development, gas turbine combined cycle system level modeling, FMEA, simulation, testing and implementation of various modeling and analytics techniques as part of R&D projects related to digital technology initiatives. The target candidate will have at least 3-5 years’ experience within a role related to monitoring and diagnostics, reliability engineering, data analytics, data science, troubleshooting or thermal process modeling for heavy industrial gas turbines. Multi-platform experience and prior experience with BOP and bottoming cycle modeling and diagnostics is a plus. Willing to travel to customer sites in the U.S. and well established international sites.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop control algorithms and system level modeling to support analytic and digital initiatives using a variety of commercial software and programming platforms including Python, OSI PI, Excel, VBA, SQL, Power BI, Tableau and others.
- Support the development of clean sheet design approaches to new and existing ideas for emerging technology and data analytics schemes applied to Industrial Gas Turbine Power Plants.
- Develop computational algorithms, mathematical processes using Machine learning and other Artificial Intelligence techniques to identify anomalies in power plant equipment behavior and reach meaningful conclusions as to the root cause.
- Develop protocol and program serial interfaces across various control platforms in support of embedded technology and digital ecosystem.
- Provide support for project planning and implementation activities with internal and external teams.
- Support use-case definitions and value propositions for software application development with internal business development teams such as PLM/marketing as well as engineering and M&D.
- Support marketing, sales, product line management and engineering efforts through publication of technical papers / case studies and attendance at industry conferences for digital applications as necessary to advance Digital Solutions initiatives.
- Support customer meetings and deliver presentations on digital applications as required.
- Overnight travel (up to 25%) by land and/or air.
- Perform other such duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION

Role-Specific Experience:
- Demonstrated competency working with large data sets and performing data analysis and root cause analysis. Expected to use commercial data historians and data manipulation / visualization software including: OSI PI, Python/C programming, Power BI, Tableau, predictive analytics modeling tools, machine learning tools/algorithms, etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge of combined cycle industrial gas turbine power plants including design, O&M (operations and maintenance) and process interactions.
- Able to read and interpret P&ID’s and control logic diagrams.
- High-level knowledge and capabilities with industrial process controls, including Netmation, Ovation, T3000, TXP or MKVIe (GE) control systems.
Education and Industry Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, training, or certification in Engineering or Computer Science/Programming from four-year college or university or technical institution; and at least three to five (3-5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills: SharePoint, Windows Operating Systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Knowledge of PI system database software, electronic mail; graphics; technical network diagrams, process flowcharts etc.
