Summary

 

As we prepare for the future growth in the region, we need a regional compliance director to support the Compliance Officer; this new hire will be a first in the role, and will drive quarterly compliance reviews, lessons learned, some policy drafting, help identify needed training, may provide support for discovery requests, and can become our key expert on various regulated matters. It’s a broad role where we pick the most important needs together. This professional will help a rapidly growing company and team to think about “what will the best compliance effort look like”? Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Directly responsible for:

  • Promotes MPWA compliance priorities and programs in the region and supports the CCO as requested
  • Promotes Company policy, MPWA’s ethics and values, MPWA internal controls, and MHI Code of Conduct
  • Promotes compliance with statutory/regulatory requirements
  • Acts as a subject matter expert on specific regional authorities and risks, monitors and advises the CCO as to emerging authorities in the region
  • Conducts statutory/regulatory research as needed, as directed by the CCO, or requested by management
  • Interacts and supports interactions with regional governments and entities, to include non-standard interactions, audits, visits, disclosures, and investigations, amongst other things
  • Provides direct Compliance oversight of operations and business activities in the region to promote compliance with statutory/regulatory requirements, government standards and expectations, Company policy, and internal controls
  • May be called to be the Chief Compliance Officer for MHI Power Colombia, or assume other created or statutorily required positions as deemed necessary by the CCO Interact with governmental agencies and regulators on compliance issues in consultation with Compliance management

  • Education and/or Experience: Ten years of practical experience in a bonifide compliance position, and/or substantive formal education and certification related to regulatory/statutory compliance; and/or substantive government regulatory and enforcement background; sufficient to comprehensively understand and apply LATAM Region and international compliance controls and to develop, coordinate, and provide training
  • Training/Certification: Compliance training and certification, government regulatory and enforcement background, or legal training is valued
  • Knowledge: Substantive and practical knowledge and expertise in compliance controls, general understanding of compliance program activities and principles, and government standards and expectation pertaining to compliance controls
  • Skills: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to effectively communicate and motivate others.  Ability to think critically, read, and write on complex matters. Ability to operate database, spreadsheet, and word processing software, electronic mail, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.
  • Management: Must be able to thoughtfully and respectfully engaging others in an international environment, lead a compliance program, foster a culture, and ethical corporate environment
  • Language: Spanish, English and Portuguese

Location - Organizational Structure

 

The Regional Compliance Director - LATAM will have a primary office with Mitsubishi Power Americas – Brazil Office located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and will travel as required to support Mitsubishi Power Americas’ or other initiates as directed.  Remote or flexible work schedules may be authorized.  The Regional Compliance Director - LATAM will report to Chief Compliance Officer.
