Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. in Lake Mary, Florida is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer. Hybrid Schedule 3 days in office.

SUMMARY

Mitsubishi Power Americas is a major power generation equipment and storage solutions provider for the energy industry. We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the development of electrical equipment and system deliverables for our Standard Product Designs for our New Product Development Engineering team. This position is responsible for leading and designing electrical equipment and the electrical power distribution network for the auxiliary equipment of our Gas Turbine projects. This position requires experience with equipment such as MCCs, LV and MV motors, Lighting and Power Distribution Panels, LV Transformers, DC Systems, Variable Speed Drives, UPS, AC/DC rectifier systems and backup power systems. This position also requires experience with power and grounding systems, efficient raceways designs and lightning protection systems.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

  • Develop electrical system based on our electrical standard design in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Interpret and integrate design requirements from parent company or customer (per contract specifications).
  • Interpret and design per code requirements from the authority having jurisdiction over a project’s electrical installation. Will need to be able to investigate, understand, and interpret, when necessary, the applicable electrical code for a project (NEC/NFPA 70, CEC, IEC, ISA, AGA, etc.).
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to integrate electrical equipment.
  • Develop and / or review electrical component specifications, and work with electrical system vendors to integrate electrical components, equipment, and systems into plants.
  • Prepare and / or review purchase specs for electrical equipment and select vendors to construct electrical packages. 
  • Perform and / or review calculations, sizing of equipment (i.e.: breakers, overload devices, relays), sizing of cables/conduits/equipment spacing, illumination level calculations, maintaining BOM’s, and other design duties required by complexity of project.
  • Generate and / or review electrical drawing packages (single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, electrical loads lists, motors lists, wiring diagrams, control schematics, cable schedules, terminations schedules) used (or created) by Electrical engineers, designers, and drafters to document logic, point to point wiring, and system interaction.
  • Develop and / or review electrical, control and instrumentation wiring diagrams and cable lists generated by SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) or SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) designers.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and standardize product designs for improved manufacturability and reduce cost without compromising product quality and function.
  • Meet regularly w/ vendors and ensure that all technical and schedule requirements are met.
  • Interpret and respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors and field personnel.
  • Use of SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL); SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) and SmartPlant 3D (S3D) to design electrical power and control systems. Experience with similar database driven software will also be considered.
  • Perform other such duties as may be required.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures reporting all unsafe activities to Management and/or Human Resources.
  • Preferred to have experience in working with Generators (150 MVA ratings and above) for Gas or Steam Turbines with its Auxiliaries power plant experience is a plus.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

  • Communicate effectively with all levels of employees.
  • Possessing current, working knowledge of electrical design for industrial facilities; power plant experience is a plus.

  • Work closely with the electrical team in implementing smart-tool standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop schedules, coordinate, and manage the design for projects of all sizes with minimal supervision from the project lead.
  • Meet schedule requirements for project engineering deliverables.
  • Provide technical support during manufacturing and commissioning of equipment.
  • Mentor junior engineers, designers and interns in support of their development.
  • Travel – up to 10%.

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Electrical Engineering required. Eight (8) years of technical and/or practical experience in industrial facility power distribution design a plus. Individuals with an inclination towards computer programming languages is highly encouraged.

 

  • Familiarity with electrical codes, industry standards and best practices is required; Strong familiarity with National Electric Code NFPA 70 is a requirement for this position; Knowledge of NEMA, IEC, IEEE, ISA, ANSI, NFPA 70E, UL, CSA, TUV, and other codes and standards desirable.

 

SOFTWARE EXPERIENCE DESIRED

 

    •  
  • SmartPlant Electrical: Expertise of the software is a plus. Significant expertise in registered report creation/modification, symbol creation, filters creation, rules creation, reference data creation, batch mode operations, data maintenance, and overall effective utilization of this tool.
  • SmartPlant Instrumentation: Past experience of the software is a plus.
  • SmartSketch: Past experience with the tool is a plus.
  • SmartPlant 3D: 2 years, or significant expertise in creation of electrical tray/conduit specifications, designing of trays/conduits, creation of tray/conduit drawings, and extraction of bills of materials from tool. All related to the electrical module of S3D. Experience with Revit 3d or another comparable 3D electrical design tool will be considered as well.
  • AutoCAD: Experience with this tool is a plus.
