About the Position

 

This position is responsible for leading a team of engineers that has the responsibility to develop performance and emissions estimates of Gas Turbine Combined Cycle (GTCC) Power Plants. The team is expected to be proficient in all aspects of GTCC plant performance, and is a primary source of technical information for support of related proposal activities. The position demonstrates leadership, interpersonal skills, good communication, and subject matter expertise in gas turbine and combined cycle performance modeling and emissions. The position is involved in all technical aspects of business development, including, but not limited to, feasibility studies, responses to customer requests for information, technical proposal preparation, bid clarifications and contract negotiations. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Lead a dedicated team that is responsible for providing expert guidance to customers and proposal commercial sales teams, related to GTCC performance and emissions
  • Oversee the Group Managers within the team, and coordinate with several external teams such as the proposal teams in Japan, the Mitsubishi Power commercial teams, product line managers, and product development teams
  • Lead meetings, and presentations with potential Customers, with MHI Japan and with all other Mitsubishi Power internal and external stakeholders
  • Responsible to ensure that all performance and emissions estimates are prepared in accordance with all procedures, and that all guarantees are approved by the relevant approval authorities including MHI Japan
  • Develop and maintain a close business relationship with performance modeling team in Japan, as well as with the product development and execution teams in the US
  • For specific proposals, assist the Technical Proposal Team with:
    • the development of a proposal strategy, in coordination with the commercial operations department, the sales department and the Applications Engineering Managers and Director
    • the review of requests for proposal (RFPs) and identifies the performance requirements, as well as deviations from the Mitsubishi standard performance modeling and performance testing guidelines
    • the production of proposal specific performance estimates and performance guarantees.
    • The customer bid clarifications and contract negotiations
  • Drives process improvement efforts within the organization to improve key metrics of safety, quality, schedule, and cost
  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Review, approval, and development of project specific performance and emissions calculations and guarantees for GTCC equipment
    • Prepare and maintain work instructions, operating procedures, standard modeling methods, processes, and guidelines
    • Maintain the standard performance information, in coordination with the external teams, and the team’s functional experts
    • Assist the New Product Development team to develop and define the standard performance for GTCC plants
    • Coordinate with the Project and Plant Engineering teams to ensure latest product knowledge is obtained and communicated to the entire organization
    • Develop technical write-ups for the support of customer specific options
    • Perform other such duties as may be required

  • Support Mitsubishi Power commercial operations, sales, and marketing functions with technical information as needed

  • Proactively improve tools, processes, and procedures of the Applications Engineering team
  • Prepare technical papers for publications in professional societies and other public forums
  • Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service, safety and innovation are emphasized
  • The group shall adhere to all company policies, business practices and standard operating procedures and
    • communicate effectively with all levels of employees
    • Maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity at all times
    • Attend, contribute to or lead meetings during Japanese normal business hours a few times per month
  • Each member of the group is expected to travel on business. Expected business travel is 5%-20% of the year

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Mechanical, Fluids or Thermal Engineering from four-year college or university, and (12) twelve years of applicable experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Subject matter expertise in other roles and engineering disciplines utilized in combined cycle plant design are not mandatory, but beneficial
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English language.  Ability to write, in English language, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Japanese, Spanish, and Portuguese language skills are not mandatory, but beneficial
  • Scientific Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, thermodynamics, fluids dynamics and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office applications (Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Acrobat Writer, Excel, etc.).  Knowledge of database, project management, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc
