SUMMARY

 

Mitsubishi Power Americas is seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Project Logistics, to lead and develop our project logistics team within the power generation new units business. This strategic role will oversee a team of subject matter experts across all transport modes, including chartering, heavy haul ground transport, barging, and rail. As a key member of our Integrated Supply Chain organization, the successful candidate will drive the project logistics strategy, leading initiatives to optimize and transform current practices to enhance competitive advantage and deliver exceptional customer outcomes.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of project logistics professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
    • Apply technical expertise to evaluate and optimize transportation methods, route planning, and equipment selection for the safe and efficient delivery of cargo during both Estimating and Execution phases.
    • Oversee comprehensive project freight operations, including multimodal transport, customs clearance, route surveys, and specialized cargo handling.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with Supply Chain Operations, Procurement, Project Management, Sales, Finance, and other teams to align logistics strategies with business goals and maximize customer satisfaction.
    • Develop and implement initiatives to reduce costs and lead times while exploring synergies with other Mitsubishi group companies for cost savings.
    • Assume full responsibility for project logistics budgeting, scheduling, planning, and risk management.
    • Cultivate and manage relationships with key logistics partners, including Carriers, Riggers, Railroads, 3PLs, and 4PLs, ensuring alignment with current and emerging technologies.
    • Develop and execute plans to proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with heavy haul logistics, such as road restrictions, permitting challenges, or equipment limitations.
    • Actively contribute to the development and execution of commodity strategies for Heavy Haul and Over-dimensional Logistics.
    • Facilitate the use of advanced planning and forecasting tools to streamline logistics processes and enhance communication with Logistics Service Providers.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to elevate the efficiency and effectiveness of transportation and logistics operations.
    • Monitor and enhance supplier performance, implementing improvement plans to ensure adherence to guidelines and compliance initiatives.
    • Contribute to the supplier selection process, evaluating candidates based on Total Cost of Ownership criteria, including quality, reliability, delivery, and transport costs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION    

 

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill the essential duties with proficiency. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

    • Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business or a related field from an accredited institution, with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in project logistics, specializing in managing heavy haul and over-dimensional loads; OR fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in project logistics leadership roles. Experience within an OEM or the logistics service provider industry is essential. Proven track record of leading teams is required.
    • Technical Skills: Extensive hands-on experience with Heavy Haul & Over-dimensional Cargo across all modes of transport is mandatory, including familiarity with relevant regulations, equipment, and methods. Strong knowledge of industry regulations for rail, road, air, and water transportation.
    • Language Skills: Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business documents, writing reports and procedures, and effectively presenting information to various stakeholders.
    • Project Management Skills: Advanced proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, with the ability to execute transportation and logistics improvement projects.
    • Mathematical Skills: Competence in calculating figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, and volumes.
    • Financial Skills: Strong expertise in budget management, cost analysis, and financial forecasting, with a focus on controlling expenses and optimizing resource allocation.
    • Reasoning Ability: Capable of solving practical problems and handling a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret diverse instructions, whether written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled.
    • Data Skills: Proficiency in processing large data sets and making informed decisions. Ability to support digitization initiatives, including the development of dashboards, data visualization, and analysis.
    • Management & Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional negotiation and communication abilities, with the capacity to articulate job tasks, goals, and projects to global sourcing teams. Self-motivated and adept at thriving in an international, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
