MHICA's technicians build and join wing assemblies and fuselage sections, as well as perform systems and flight control assembly installations and testing.

Scope of Position

 

Reporting to the Manager – Procurement, the Lead-Procurement is responsible for leading buyers/planners and on-site expeditors for MHI Canada Aerospace. Working to provide strategic & tactical procurement solutions for supplier challenges that will affect the OTD of parts to MHICA. Coaching, training, and managing buyers/planners in their daily tasks, activities, and actions. Building strong supplier partnerships to ensure effective communication and consistent supply. Planning and looking ahead to prevent any disruption to MHICA business.

 

  • Monitors and reviews the daily tasks and objectives of buyers/planners.
  • Attends critical supplier touchpoints to help overcome any challenges they are facing.
  • Helps buyers/planners with any strategic supplier planning.
  • Manages and provides direction to any supplier expeditor that is on site. Sets expectations and reviews daily reports and actions that are provided by the expeditors.
  • Daily reporting on critical items with actions taken and status for supplier challenges and parts that do not support the production schedule.
  • Be the first escalation point for buyers and ensure the correct path of escalation to management.
  • Take charge of the execution of procurement activities of all buyers.
  • Lead the implementation of the procurement team KPI’s and monitor buyers’ adherence to the defined metrics.
  • Clear communication of critical items with the Production Planning and Co-ordinating team.
  • Advanced planning and forecasting skills to ensure future on time deliveries.
  • Analyzes material requirements and/or Kanban levels for purchased parts to achieve optimum material flow.
  • Monitors and expedites materials to ensure material flow to support production requirements and sales orders.
  • Establish order parameters to optimize inventory levels to improve flow.
  • Develops and manages effective relationships with internal departments. i.e., engineering, manufacturing, accounting, planning/materials, and quality.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with suppliers.
  • Working with sourcing to maintain Material Requirements Planning (MRP) order parameters on assigned parts (i.e. lead time, Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ), Multiples, Contact info etc.) in MHICA system.
  • Preparing and presenting Supplier PRM’s.
  • Working with sourcing on dual source options for more stable parts flow on critical parts.
  • Working with buyers/planners on gap buys for parts that are not supporting production schedule.
  • Coordinating with suppliers and sourcing for parts delays due to raw material, hardware, consumables and adhesives – working with methods and engineering on alternates that can be used to overcome these challenges.
  • Recommendation of validity of on-site expeditors.

 

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational skills are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels in the organization required.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems – Syspro preferred.
  • Driven, tenacious and assertive character.
  • Resilient and reliant/creative go to person.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

 

 

Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years’ prior experience as a Buyer / Planner, or other Supply Chain Management function.
  • Ability to review and relate Engineering Drawings and Specifications, an asset.
  • Aerospace experience is an asset.

Education

  • Degree or Diploma in business or related program.
  • In lieu of degree/diploma 10+ years of related experience.
