MHICA's technicians build and join wing assemblies and fuselage sections, as well as perform systems and flight control assembly installations and testing.

 

Scope of Position

Reporting to Manager – Tooling, the Tool & Die (Toolmaker) is responsible for maintaining Jigs and Fixtures using manual and conventional machining practices. Other duties include:

 

  • Manufactures and assembles new tools and fixtures from Tool drawings
  • Modifies existing tools and fixtures from Tool drawings
  • Rework and maintain assembly fixtures
  • Creates detail parts using Tool Room machinery, equipment, and hand tools
  • Works closely with Laser Tracker Technicians and other Tooling group members during periodic tool inspections (PTI’s)
  • Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives on all aspects of the job
  • Keeps Manager – Tooling informed of daily operations
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Proficient in blue print / Tool Drawing reading, interpretation and operation of tool room and production equipment (grinding, milling, lathe etc.)
  • Possess good mathematical and mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent Trouble-shooting skills for fixtures, cutting tools and tool room machinery
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Ability to work shifts to accommodate production scheduling
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn new tasks
  • Exposure to quality systems and safety fundamentals
  • Self-starter with ability to work under minimum supervision
  • Maintain professionalism
  • Ability to accomplish required duties effectively and efficiently

 

Experience

 

  • 3-5 years of experience as Tool & Die (Toolmaker)
  • Previous experience within an aerospace manufacturing environment is considered an asset
  • Previous experience working with Laser Trackers is considered an asset
  • Aluminum Welding (MIG) experience is considered an asset
  • Exposure to quality systems and safety fundamentals

Education

  • Licensed Tool and Die Maker (Ontario Certificate of Apprenticeship)
