Role Overview
Select and apply controls engineering techniques and procedures in the installation, modification, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and startup of Mitsubishi gas/steam turbines. This category is for personnel experienced in the combustion tuning of MHI Gas Turbines. The target candidate will have at least 5+ years’ experience in design installation, start up and commissioning, and/or troubleshooting of heavy industrial gas turbines.
Candidates should have prior gas turbine tuning experience with DLN and advanced combustion system applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Have a thorough understanding of the theory of the combustion process in MHI gas turbines.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the combustion dynamics that occur in a MHI gas turbine.
- High-Level knowledge and capabilities within Digital Control Systems (Netmation, Ovation, SPPA- T3000, TXP, Speedtronic Mark V/VI/VIe, etc.).
- Knowledge of control and complex areas within control scheme as well as use and application as it relates to operation and troubleshooting for onsite execution.
- Able to perform combustion tuning on MHI F and G frame gas turbines. This is to include the procedure for tuning, the process to perform countermeasures for pressure fluctuations encountered, and performance of special tuning such as load overshoot and Fuel Gas Temperature tuning.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the use of tuning programs such as the VB program and the CASS computer.
- Knowledge and application of advanced control concepts such as Cascade Control, Feed Forward, PID tuning, bumpless transfers, etc.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the administrative requirements at the completion of combustion tuning to include customer and internal reporting.
- Provide start-up commissioning, operations and/or troubleshooting support for equipment failures and determine root cause analysis and implement solutions.
- Perform on-site combustion tuning of Mitsubishi gas turbines, using knowledge of combustion dynamics and Mitsubishi combustion tuning software.
- Provide calibration of field devices.
- Verify slot assignment, output, transmitter, failsafe structure, connections, display, system/loop check, operational, functional and tuning of Mitsubishi GT controllers.
- Program Mitsubishi logic controllers.
- Perform instrument loop calculation and operation set points.
- Prepare and submit accurate reports regarding conditions, required actions and obtained results.
- Perform other such duties as may be required.
- Overnight travel (at least 50%) by land and/or air.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (BA) in Engineering from four-year college or university plus three (3) years’ experience; or at least five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have related gas turbine, controls systems and technical report writing experience from power industry.
- Knowledge of database, project management, spreadsheet and word processing software, electronic mail, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc. Digital Control Systems (Netmation, Ovation, SPPA- T3000, TXP, Speedtronic Mark V/VI/VIe, etc.).
