Role Overview
The Commercial Operations Senior Manager leads team performance, commercial process execution, stakeholder alignment, and continuous improvement across Commercial Operations. This role is accountable for ensuring high-quality, timely proposal support for Power Generation Services transactional and Long Term Service Agreement opportunities while strengthening commercial governance, pricing discipline, cross-functional coordination, and execution handoff. The Senior Manager provides day-to-day leadership for Commercial Operations team members, develops team capability, supports complex and high-priority opportunities, and partners closely with Sales, LTSA, Product Line Operations, Service Operations, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and customers to deliver competitive, accurate, and executable proposals. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in commercial operations, proposal development, business analytics, commercial process improvement, and people leadership. This position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure, facilitate decisions across departments, communicate clearly with all levels of the organization, and create, follow, and improve written procedures. Periodic travel is required to support sales, training, customer engagement, conferences, and tradeshows.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Commercial Operations team performance, prioritization, workload balancing, and proposal execution to ensure consistent, high-quality, and timely support.
- Develop, coach, and mentor Commercial Operations team members, establish performance expectations, provide feedback, and support development planning.
- Oversee PGS transactional and LTSA-related opportunities from intake through proposal delivery, approval, order booking support, and execution handoff.
- Provide direct proposal support for complex, high-priority, or escalated opportunities.
- Lead cross-functional proposal efforts from kickoff through submission, coordinating strategy, timelines, actions, risks, technical scope, pricing, and stakeholder decisions.
- Develop pricing recommendations, maintain pricing guardrails, and coordinate Grants of Authority approval meetings with appropriate leadership.
- Maintain commercial processes, approval workflows, documentation standards, rate sheets, templates, and governance practices.
- Analyze proposal, sales, cycle-time, margin, win/loss, and operational data to identify risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure the accuracy and usefulness of commercial data, dashboards, reports, and management follow-up information.
- Partner with Sales, LTSA, Product Line Operations, Service Operations, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and other stakeholders to clarify roles, inputs, decision rights, and execution commitments.
- Support customer meetings, presentations, executive reviews, shop tours, training sessions, and commercial communications as required.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives that simplify proposal execution, reduce rework, improve responsiveness, and strengthen accountability.
- Support competitive intelligence, market research, forecasting, market pricing, process development, and other commercial initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field and eight (8) to ten (10) years of experience in commercial operations, proposal development, sales operations, or industrial services; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum three (3) years of people leadership or team leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading commercial proposal development, pricing coordination, approval processes, and cross-functional execution in a complex environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, facilitate decisions, and deliver accurate work under schedule pressure.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret commercial, proposal, margin, cycle-time, and operational data.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and interpret technical or quantitative information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare business correspondence and present information to customers, leadership, and cross-functional teams.
- Working knowledge of project management tools, commercial reporting systems, CRM or opportunity management platforms, databases, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and word-processing software.
- Experience with dashboards, data analysis, process documentation, commercial governance, and continuous improvement preferred.
- Ability to travel up to 15% and meet physical requirements including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally in environments where personal protective equipment may be required.
