Continuous Improvement Engineer I

Role Overview

• Entry-level, full-time engineering position responsible for leading and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and business processes.
• Apply engineering principles, Lean methodologies, process mapping, data analysis, and structured problem-solving tools to improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and overall performance.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to document current-state processes, identify gaps, develop future-state recommendations, and support process standardization.
• Operate with guidance from the Continuous Improvement team while developing the capability to independently lead small-to-moderate improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support continuous improvement projects across manufacturing, operations, and business processes.
  • Facilitate process mapping activities, document current-state conditions, identify gaps, clarify roles and handoffs, and develop future-state recommendations.
  • Participate in shop floor improvement meetings and project follow-up activities to drive accountability and action completion.
  • Develop and maintain SIPOC diagrams, swim lane maps, process maps, standard work, work instructions, job aids, data collection templates, RASIC inputs, and visual management materials.
  • Validate processes with stakeholders, identify decision points and pain points, and support standardization across teams and business units.
  • Communicate project plans, improvement activities, findings, action items, risks, and results to stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures and report unsafe conditions.
  • Contribute to departmental and company goals while fostering a positive team environment.
  • Protect confidential information and maintain the highest standards of honesty and integrity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Management, or related technical discipline required.
  • Entry-level candidates, recent graduates, and early-career professionals are encouraged to apply; internship, co-op, or project experience is preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and communicate technical documents, procedures, process maps, and standard work instructions.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret process data using basic statistical methods.
  • Ability to apply engineering judgment and structured problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and support corrective actions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Power BI, or similar tools preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, visual management, value stream mapping, SIPOC, swim lane mapping, root cause analysis, waste identification, and basic project management concepts preferred.
  • Ability to lead small-to-moderate projects with guidance, develop action plans, track milestones, and communicate status updates.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, take initiative, collaborate across functions, and support a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to observe, document, and standardize processes, including identifying inputs, outputs, handoffs, and decision points.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, and travel up to 30% as required.
