Role Overview
Controls Systems Integration Engineers are responsible for the technical production, configuration, integration, upgrade, and installation of digital turbine control systems and associated cybersecurity solutions used on Mitsubishi and non‑OEM gas and steam turbines. These systems include turbine control platforms, HMI systems, controllers, I/O networks, data highways, field instrumentation interfaces, OPC communications, historian and alarm systems, engineering workstations, Windows servers, virtualized environments, secure networking, and multi‑layered cybersecurity tools.
Integration activities include the configuration and administration of domain controllers, Active Directory, Group Policy Objects (GPO), Windows operating systems, Linux systems, and system‑wide tools such as WSUS for centralized patch management. Engineers also integrate third‑party software, virtualization platforms (e.g., Hyper‑V), hardware firewalls, network switches, routers, and control system communication interfaces to create reliable, secure, and resilient systems for both internal and external stakeholders.
The Controls Systems Integration Engineer II evaluates operational issues, supports commissioning and startup activities, adjusts turbine control settings, performs control logic and database modifications, updates HMI graphics, troubleshoots communication and I/O issues, and implements logic or hardware changes to improve reliability and maintain safe operation. Supported components include turbine controllers, CPUs, I/O modules, data highways, control and cybersecurity networks, electronic devices (such as switches, routers, positioners, and instruments), storage devices, server and workstation hardware, and network infrastructure.
This role performs routine engineering assignments with limited supervision, following established engineering, installation, and safety processes, while progressively handling more complex technical challenges under the guidance of senior engineers or management.
Key Responsibilities
Support the evaluation and enhancement of control system operations with an increasing scope of responsibility. The Controls Integration Service Engineer II will perform routine work assignments with limited supervision and will actively work to increase product knowledge and skills.
- Support the maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrade of turbine control systems, including controllers, I/O modules, HMI stations, servers, engineering workstations, and communication devices.
- Perform control system health checks, diagnostics, root cause analysis, and corrective actions to identify and resolve operational issues.
- Configure, test, and validate control logic, HMI graphics, alarm points, historian data, trends, and control system databases prior to deployment.
- Support site activities such as installation, loop checks, point‑to‑point testing, interlock testing, functional testing, commissioning, startup support, and customer acceptance testing.
- Troubleshoot control system communication issues involving OPC, Modbus TCP, data highways, controllers, network switches, firewalls, and third‑party interfaces.
- Support control system modernization efforts, including controller and HMI upgrades, I/O network upgrades, firmware updates, D‑ring or data highway upgrades, and replacement of obsolete hardware.
- Support cybersecurity maintenance activities, including patch management, firewall configuration, system hardening, antivirus and malware protection, user access management, and backup verification.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, schematics, upgrade procedures, test plans, redlines, as‑built documentation, configuration records, troubleshooting reports, and customer deliverables.
- Coordinate activities with field service, engineering teams, cybersecurity specialists, OEM partners, project management, and customers to plan and execute control system upgrades and site work.
- Identify obsolete or at‑risk components and support lifecycle planning, spare parts recommendations, and upgrade strategies to improve long‑term system reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Ensure all work complies with company standards, quality requirements, safety procedures, and applicable customer and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts and proactively recommend product, process, and service enhancements.

Requirements
- Education and/or Experience: BS degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university, or a minimum of five (5) years directly related work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. Strong controls and networking experience required.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret technical documents and system definition. Ability to apply and write technical reports and correspondence including customer reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to customers, clients, vendors and other employees of the organization.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to make judgment decisions based on specifications or technical requirements and associated risks.
- Computer Skills: Advanced personal computer skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio) VLANs, WSUS, control system logic, computer hardware, Active Directory, Group Policies.
