Role Overview

The Director, Steam Turbine Service Engineering provides vision, leadership, and technical governance for engineering services supporting Service Operations (LTSA) and Service Execution (Field Service) within Mitsubishi Power Americas Power Generation Services. This role is accountable for safety, quality, and people development while coordinating steam turbine service engineering activities that support outage execution, repairs, and long-term fleet reliability. The position requires deep technical expertise balanced with strong leadership and a ONE TEAM mindset to deliver operational and organizational excellence for customers.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical, operational, and organizational leadership to managers and individual contributors supporting steam turbine service engineering.
  • Drive people development through IDPs, succession planning, leadership development, and structured mentorship programs for junior engineers.
  • Manage staffing, capacity planning, skill matrices, and resource allocation using formal planning and task management systems.
  • Serve as primary technical owner for steam turbine service criteria used in field service and repair facilities, ensuring consistent disposition of non-conformances.
  • Provide engineering governance for complex steam turbine repairs, including feasibility assessments, risk evaluation, and approval of repair plans.
  • Lead cross-functional technical reviews for high-risk or non-standard steam turbine scopes and ensure appropriate documentation and customer communication.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and repair partners to ensure repair execution meets quality, safety, and schedule requirements.
  • Develop and maintain steam turbine component life assessment methods, inspection planning inputs, and data-driven decision governance.
  • Drive risk assessment, RCCAs, and 8D corrective actions for steam turbine parts failures and fleet issues.
  • Ensure fleet experience and lessons learned are integrated into service products, repair specifications, and design reviews.
  • Provide onsite and remote technical support during steam turbine outage execution, prioritizing safety, quality, and critical path issues.
  • Support sales and marketing activities through technical documentation, presentations, and customer engagement.
  • Support ISO 9001 compliance efforts and represent the organization in industry and customer technical forums.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in power generation engineering functions relevant to steam turbine service engineering; combined cycle experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex steam turbine repairs, life and condition assessments, and failure investigations.
  • Proven people leadership, mentoring, and development experience in critical-path environments.
  • Strong multidisciplinary program and project management capability within collaborative organizations.
  • Ability to apply engineering fundamentals related to steam turbine component life, thermal-mechanical behavior, and risk-based decision making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to present technical information to customers, leadership, and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with database, project management, spreadsheet, word processing, and technical documentation tools.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25–50 pounds; ability to work in loud or industrial environments using required PPE.
