Operations and Maintenance Engineer
Location: Orlando International Airport • Schedule: Third Shift • Team: Operations & Maintenance (O&M)
Why this role matters
Keep an airport moving. As the APM Systems Engineer you’ll be the go-to technical owner for electro-mechanical systems that move thousands of passengers daily. You’ll troubleshoot complex faults, drive reliability improvements, and turn findings into fixes, trainings, and updated procedures.
What you’ll do
- Own the technical health of APM systems. Lead resolution of complex electro-mechanical issues; record all activities in the MMIS; ensure PMs hit schedule and spec.
- Troubleshoot & restore. Diagnose faults, identify root causes, develop repair plans, and communicate clear next steps to technicians and supervisors.
- Drive reliability. Perform failure/root-cause analysis; trend disruptions; recommend changes that reduce recurrence and improve time-to-restore.
- Elevate documentation. Coordinate with MHIA Engineering on drawing/SOP changes; make sure updates are consistent and adopted.
- Teach and mentor. Deliver targeted technical training; create one-pagers/checklists; communicate procedure changes to techs and leads.
- Work from the schematics. Trace and interpret complex electrical/signal processing diagrams; use precision instruments to verify to spec.
- Step up when needed. Provide backup supervision when the Shift Supervisor/Manager is out.
What success looks like (first 6–12 months)
- PM compliance at or above target; clean MMIS work orders with verification notes/photos
- Measurable reduction in repeat faults on assigned subsystems
- Updated drawings/SOPs accepted by both shifts
- Techs trained and signed off on at least two high-value procedures
What you’ll bring
- BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (accredited)
- 3–5 years in electro-mechanical systems (rail/transit, industrial automation, aviation, or similar)
- Strong troubleshooting ability; comfort with complex schematics
- Hands-on with precision tools (micrometers, oscilloscopes, analyzers, calipers), hand/power tools, and MMIS software
- Clear communicator who can translate technical detail into action for technicians and leaders
Nice to have
- APM/rail transit experience; familiarity with PLC/SCADA; reliability engineering or RCA methods
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with satisfactory record
- Able to obtain/maintain airport security clearance
- Post-offer background check, drug/alcohol test, physical, and Ishihara (red/green) color test
- Fluent in spoken and written English
Tools & tech you’ll use
MMIS (Maintenance Management Information System), standard office apps, precision measuring tools, oscilloscopes/analyzers, hand/power tools.
Physical & work environment
- Regularly: use hands, reach, climb/balance, stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl; stand/walk; talk/hear
- Occasionally: sit; lift/move up to 25 lbs frequently and 50 lbs with help occasionally
- Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, focus
- Environment: active rail/industrial setting with moving parts and live systems; exposure to humidity, temperature extremes (non-weather), and electrical risk; PPE and safety procedures required
